I stumbled upon this and I have a couple of thoughts. First off, what is the exact s/n of this car and is it still around? Secondly, how do you think they were able to make such a high quality audio and video recording like this back in the 50's ? And lastly, how about the size of the curbs back then, wow.

Yep, one of my fave's- andthe 250F's one of my favorite G.P. cars.

There's a slightly longer version of this video on Italian Racing Red (Duke Video; came out about 10 years ago- not worth buying, IMO). It shows Fangio and his GF (?) driving up in a 300 SL roadster (as I recall- so must've been a really early SL roadster?), and putting on his racing kit, etc.

To check out Fangio in a Ferrari (okay, a Lancia-Ferrari D50), check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRc18SfbnIM

He's so smooth you almost think he's a bad actor on a blue screen in Hollywood.

    Wonderful.

Great stuff from the days "..when the drivers were fat and the tires were skinny..". One of the coolest things about this particular video is that yoou can actually see when he's pursing his lips and trying a little extra hard. The video it's excerpted from is indeed worth owning.

It's amazing how calm he is, totally in control and confident. Like he's out for a walk around the park on a Sunday afternoon.

Count Giovanni Volpi produced and Hugh Hudson directed a 1 + 45 minute documentary of Fangio, around 1980. Includes fantastic footage. I have a DVD copy but I don't believe it is in circulation. Fangio grew up slipping and sliding around dirt and gravel roads. My impression is, in that environment Fangio developed a great seat of the pants feel for drifting those narrow wheel F1 cars in the fifties.

Sorry, tried to load a photo of Fangio but I'm no longer a subscriber.
