I think that a lot of people are mislead about the look of the car because in the picture there is no sense of relative scale. The F149 is going to be about the size of the new Maser Granturismo. It is built on the same chassis. It is going to be much larger than the miata or honda S2000 or BMW or Merc SLK or Merc SL.

If you imagine the car on that scale, I think the design elements work.

I think Ferrari means to sell the car in NA. The USA is and remains a very important market for Ferrari.

you may be correct. What I see is a squat car akin to those mentioned. A more elongated version might work....however, I'm not warming up to that rear.....I see mods coming.

    Sounds good!!

The new Mondail for 2009!!! Honestly, I am just disappointed with Ferrari's platform sharing with Maserati! The Ferrari workers look down on Maserati and now they are using their parts, not the other way around.

I know the rear is weird. But after looking at it with some imagination and an open mind, it might be alright.

I am reminded of how I felt when I saw the first picture of the 360- the front view with no center prancing horse grill and two large nostrils instead- I was very unimpressed. So were most people.

I went to the F Dealer in Beverly Hills (nice dealer), and asked hypothetically if I could order a car and they said that I would be number 18 because there wasn't that much interest. I didn't because I had never owned a Ferrari and was nervous about the new look amoungst other things (reliability and service costs).

Once people saw the car in the metal, the list blew up. All the VIPs, repeat buyers, guys with 355's that would be taken in at a good price for the dealer-they got on the list and when I asked again if I could order a car the answer was call back in 5 years! They weren't even taking deposits.

Anybody know when the 1st one hits the dealers here? I don't like the pictures, but I was wrong about the 599, so I'll wait until I see one in person.

The rear is tall. Way, way too tall. Then again, the F430 has the same problem.

The side profile is pretty, but I'm not blown away. Back to drooling over the 355...

i think its pretty nice but i always laugh when people see a 'new' car design and say it looks like a cross between car A and car B with a little of car C around the edges. duh, its a front engined long nose short trunk convertible ment to be mass produced. how different can it really be? aside from that, i really hate the lexus tail pipes. lol

    any views with top up?

    largely agree all around.

except about the "Lexus" pipes.... do people hate them just because recently the IS-F features a similar design or.... are they truly ugly in their own right --Lexus or not?

I don't see anything at all wrong looking about them. Do they really detract that much from the entire car?! In my summation who cares if Lexus uses them.

Had Ferrari come out with the California a few months ahead of the Lexus, with Lexus timing it's IS-F a few months behind the Ferrari, everyone would be saying Lexus "copied Ferrari" and, more than likely, not nearly as many criticisms about the stacked pipes would be flying around. They wouldn't matter so much.

I'd like to see other cars that have stacked pipes where Toyota copied from. There must be some somewhere we can look up.

LOL.... nope.. they copied Lexus back then, too.

You can't go disproving that Ferrari may not have copied Lexus. Stacked pipes haven't occurred to anyone until only this year! C'mon now!

Looks like everyone else copies Lexus, too:

I think that we have sufficiently killed the "copied the Lexus" tailpipe thing. Let's not hear that again.

Functionality is not one of them. It offers a nice showplace for the chromed name. It looks like other mid engined cars so it has a Ferrari "look" to it. It breaks up what would otherwise be a lot of red back there. I've said before the rear challenges the stylists.

Read my post again. SLOWLY! I said that I wish they would have unvailed something like this. I did not say that
this was a 2+2 or a hard top convertible. I was merely stating that the concept had more style than the California.

    You said it.

Someone else here mentioned FIAT's ownership has been largely benign: Clearly that's over with.

A long and steady descent from the 512/TR to this steaming pile of meagerness.
