Hello guys. Here's a stupid question. Any 612s were ever equiped by the DSG gearbox before? I heard that the new 612 which were sent to the Beijing international motor show carried a DSG gearbox and thought that was funny. Need your confirmation! Thanks a lot!

What I heard from my dealer is that the 612 / spring 08 will have the same F1 superfast transmission as the 599

No, 612 has never had a DSG tranny.

They do now have the Superfast tranny, shifting in as quickly as 100 milliseconds, same as the 599 in "Race" mode.

Thank you guys, now I know that's just a stupid piece of rumor. So the F149 is the very first Ferrari with DSG gearbox? I'm surprised and confused by this innovation since I never heard that Ferrari was developing the DSG shift system and it just came out that abruptly.

Ferrari will use DSG on touring oriented (California GT)cars and F1 Superfast on more performance oriented cars (F149, 599, 430S). DSG is much more comfortable during normal road use. F1 Superfast in auto mode is not acceptable to a lot of current BMW/MB owners who are used to not feeling shifts

Thanks, I know the difference between the F1 superfast gearbox and the DSG, actually my question is when the new DSG gearbox was developed and is the F149 the very first one with DSG? Since the 7 speed DSG is quite new (I know only the VW DQ200 which is about to hit the market) and I never knew that Ferrari was working on it...

First of all, DSG stands for Direct Shift Gearbox and is VW's name for their exclusive dual-clutch transmission. Other manufacturers have dual-clutch units too, but the essential transmission design is simply a dual-clutch design -- DSG is essentially a Volkswagen trademark. Audi uses the same basic unit, however, under the S tronic moniker.

But yes, the F149 (California) will be the first Ferrari to use a dual-clutch transmission.

Its not their exclusive gearbox, because it`s a Borg und Warner gearbox, they only bought it

My understanding too. VW labels it DSG and that name has stuck because it was the first mass market user in the GTI. I bought one in 05 just to play with the DSG. At that time the only other user was the Veryon. The box in my Evo X is called SST but I believe it is also Borg Warner
