I've yet to find an Amarone that makes me take real notice. Gaja, Ornellia, Sassacia and sangiovese based are my preferences.

If you want an Amarone....and you want to buy a name...Bertani..Tommasi...Allegrini...are all Monster Names...they are to the Veneto...what Ornellaia..Tignanello...Sassicaia...etc are to Tuscany.
If you want to to drink up and coming houses...the next gen. of big guns....try Galtarossa...Tedeschi "Monte Olmi"....and Viviani....they are phenoms....and are a very good value...you will still pay between 80 & 120 US $$$...but they are well worth it.
    Cheers

    I REALLY like the Tommasi!
I would be glad to try the moore expensive ones too, but I think they would be hard to find in stock for sale in Sweden, perhaps they will keep them at some restaurants. But you can bet I will keep an eye open for them. I´ve just enjoyed a CAO Italia (Ciao) with a glass of Amarone after a hard day at the office! ;)

My father managed an Italian restaurant in Midtown Manhattan for years and on the special holidays he'd always bring home a Bertani Amarone, and it was always great...

Let me know if you find a BAD Amarone. I haven't found one yet. ;)

Caveate emptor...they can be a tad pricey. Ciao

Amarone by Negrar is pretty good and cheap compared to many others. Its available in Canada and some places in the USA.

Oh yes, I love Amarone. Have a couple in my humble wine collection.
