    Just a guess but...the ex Lauda 1974 euro version being restored.

    The Dino engine rebuild has been a long process. Very neat to see the design differences between the old and new piston for the motor. More meat in some areas and less in others!

    Yes, the Daytona was Lauda's car when he signed with Ferrari in 1973. It looks like it was badly burned - it will be a lot of work to get that one back together.

    And yes, that is a Stratos in the background. It's engine is also out. It's amazing how little is left in a Stratos without an engine. For all their incredible styling, they are very simply put together. I can see why replicas are not that tough to build.

    We'll get results from the compression and leakdown this week.

    The compression test was done today.

    Compression is between 150 and 156 in all cylinders; leakdown is 9-15%, all at the bottom where it should be. After running it on the bench a while longer, the valves will be readjusted, and the engine can then be reinstalled.

    Sounds good. Mine is very close and I have 14,000 miles since new pistons. Yours should run just fine. Thanks for the feedback.

    I'm sure this problem has long since been solved, but my dad and I had the same problem with our Dino - it would drive completely normally for about 20 to 25 minutes, then it would start to quickly and severely loose power, misfire then suddenly (after we would pull over to the side of the road) the engine would die completely and refuse to restart

    After the car left us stranded several times (each time afterwards it was towed to the shop) the problem was finally solved by replacing the Dinoplex ignition module with a modern aftermarket one

    now the car runs like a CHAMP and reliably to boot

    In this case, it was not the Dinoplex. The car already had an MSD system and we could see the spark when we cranked the engine. As part of the rebuild, we've changed that to a Crane and updated the distributor to be electronic.

    The engine is back in and the car is running. I took it for an early test drive on Thursday - there are a few issues to be resolved. Looks like it is coming home in the next week!

    I've had the car for a week now, and I have put almost 1000 miles on it. It's running great. It revs smoothly to redline, and cruises comfortably all day. Wheeee!

    Dinos are for driving!
