F40 seats revisited

Need some advice.....

I decided to recover my faded F40 seats....The so-called red nomex material from Re-Originals is not quite correct, but even it it were, the foam backing is deteriorated on their stuff and will not glue properly. Come to find out, the (secret stash) roll of seat material I have is just shy of being able to cover 2 seats. So, I am in need of options.... Red Leather is not an option,... perhaps red alcantera, or the suede OMP material. What say ye?
Either that or one of you factory seat horders will come-off a pair.

isn't alcantara a form of suede material anyway?

thought about making the seats,say black?

 

If you were considering recovering them in something non-original, I'd skip that and swap them out for entirely new aftermarket seats. You could have something new, much more comfortable, and still have the original seats on the side in case you ever decide to sell it. I sincerely doubt that anyone will devalue your car for having slightly faded less than perfect original seats in addition to new aftermarket ones in the car.

 

Joe: Id keep the 'secret stash' roll for the Paul Allen car just in case of a mishap on one of the sets there (shame there's not quite enough for 2) and Id look into having someone steam-clean your original seats for the other car. Providing the fabric is not ripped or frayed, a talented upholsterer my be able to breathe 'new life' into the cloth and a bring back a brighter hue closer to original as well. Ive seen this done (removing some impossible-looking stains as well) and it turned out the material was just 'grubby' rather than 'faded'...

I had an extra seat for my F40 recovered using that material and it looks the same as my other seats....I wonder how they did that?

I seem to remember seeing a picture in a thread recently about seats, i'm not sure if it was your old thread as I couldnt see the picture I'm referring to. Someone had posted a photo of replacement seats which i thought looked immense in the F40. The standards can be kept as you say and these new seats could be used without worry etc. I'm sure they were an aftermarket seat, red material, CF back and they looked perfect, far better than some and others that i think were proposed. Ok so they looked great but you need to make sure they'll do the job in terms of comfort and lock-in as buckets vary so much.

and scroll down to F40LM seat.I have F40LM seats in my F40 which is a racer non factory LM converted to LM spec by a race team in the 1990's

The fabric is different to the standard seat material although I suspect not as hard wearing to be honest.

They are available from Michelotto as well ,and the price is a much less than standard F40 seats and they are according to Michelotto a perfectly acceptable upgrade to an F40 without in any way sacrificing provenance (his actual words to me)

Very nice option - I like the original F40LM seats.

Although I suspect Joe wants standard seats in his F40...

 

Zahir from ZR Auto being the cool guy that he is, sold me the seats from his F40, as he went with LM seats a while back.

The cool thing is that they are new. He also had a third F40 seat he threw in the deal.

For any of you wanting a F40...Mine (87200) is getting nicer by the week. I just replaced the front springs, which were sagging a bit.
