Definitely aftermarket. The factory set up is flush with the dash.

The ports in the dash are correct but the tweeters in them are not. Someone replaced the factory ones in the past with those.

Thanks for the info. Where could I source factory tweeters from? Ricambi? Rutlands? Any suggestion would be great. Thanks, DAE

David, factory tweeters are probably NLA or at least wouldn't be good to install, I'd advise looking for a factory set of covers and putting modern tweeters underneath them. Maybe you could source covers from a Ferrari recycler.

You don't want factory tweeters. Those would be 1980 technology AND just plain old...

No one, even a concours, will care what is in there. Buy newer and better. They will look exactly the same, just sound better.

Yup. Photo FChat'er jwtfjwtf took of my car.

Also I agree with Dr. Tommy, as long as the tweeter fits under the OEM grille I would get something new and good. But I would buy the OEM grilles, assuming they're still available.

    100%

Stick with the OEM grills. That way you can have whatever you want under them but, up top, it looks bone-stock.

I put an old 1981 Blaupunkt in mine but behind it are component speakers 100watt RMS, 400 watts of amp and a 6 disc cd changer under the front hood.

It sounds 2008 but looks 1981. I like it that way.

I put JL 3/4 inch tweeter, great sound. I didn't end up using the stock grill but modified the one it came with and got close to stock look. I could have made it work with the stock grills but felt it was sticking down in the dash too far to sound good.

To remove the stock grills, do you just pry them up with a flat headed screw driver?

    Hey Jon

In case you are wondering, speakers don't work very well without a stereo. Maybe that explains why you can't get sound out of them.

There is a metal round piece in the tweeter "hole" with three bendable posts that fold under the dash that are glued to a plastic round piece that the grill in glued to. From under the dash there are two small nuts that hold the tweeters in place. Not real easy to get to but you can do it after removing the fuse cover on the passenger side and the small compartment left of the steering wheel. Once the tweeters are out pry out the bendable gold posts from the inside or you may be able to gently pry off the the plastic insert from the outside if it's not glued down too well. You do risk damaging the vinyl/leather on the dash and the plastic piec if you wish to maintain the stock look. If you can successfully pry the three bendable posts straight they you can push up from underneath the plastic ring with grill attached. Hope this helps.
