In what capacity? Oil companies aren't going out of business anytime soon but they are being bought and sold quite often.

If you want to move to an oil patch, it's possible you can make good money doing mild or even easy work.

I am looking at the top 3, Exxon, Shell, Chevron. Going for a business position.

    stock options? :)

i don't know much about working for oil companies, but be prepared to get a lot of "you're the reason gas prices are so high" comments. i was talking to a trucker who hauls gas tankers for a living, and he was telling me stories about constantly being flipped off, cursed at, etc. but otherwise, i agree with the above comment that they're not going anywhere anytime soon, and i'd say with the top 3 you're *probably* safe from buyouts.

If you aren't turning wrenches or driving, it's all "business positions". What position?

My better half works for an oil company and she does get a discount on gas but it's really not enough to bother with most of the time, it's better to just fill up at an inexpensive station in a cheaper part of town.

Working at the corporate headquarters for an oil company is about the same as any other large company from what I can tell, it's just another product to sell.

Great idea, I like BP the most, they are the worlds 2nd biggest producer of solar panels and they have lots of alternative energy ideas and seem open to new stuff

    Shell is cool too

Sunoco has the Canadian shale oil thing going and Exxon will probably stay # 1

Its a great idea for job security LOL

Remind folks they could have been working at oil companies 10 years ago that were going bankrupt and capping wells when oil was only $10/bbl.
