F40 Valeo

how many F40's were delivered with Valeo clutches? When i mention, Valeo, I mean no clutch pedal, but a transmission set-up like the mondial t valeo's?

Yup, just his. He could not use a clutch pedal.

 

It also has a cigarette lighter. Any other differences?

 

I think the key difference is the price; it only made like $380,000? Cheap for a 1 off.

Most expensive things are rare, but not all rare things are expensive...

Can you imagine the repair work for gearbox stuff for the valeo pump machinery? will make the 15K for a 355 F1 pump look cheap.

 

This car features a spun aluminium gear knob and the interior is black and has been from new (all others were originally red).

$380,000 is a hell of a lot different than 380,000 EUROS

So it would indeed seem that this car is worth considerably more than most F40's.

It just sold for just over $588,000. Right in line with most recent F40 prices.

 

Can you imagine what all the current Supercars' electronic wizadry is going to cost to repair in 20 years time?

 

Yes my mistake; confused Dollar with Euro. I knew someone would list the number. Even at the adjusted price it's still a bargain. I think the F40 in general is greatly undervalued. A one of one knowing who it was built for should command 1M easily in the not too distant future. Ferrari is often about getting something that is not available. It makes the car unique. The vintage section thrives on the subtle differences between various cars built in a series. Very little of that was done for later Ferrari models.

Can someone tell me what a "Valeo" is? Perhaps is it the type of transmission where you shift without the use of a clutch?

And how many Mondial T Valeos were made?

True but they also made A LOT of F40's. I am sure this affects the price to an extent.

 

Just over 1300 isn't alot by any standard....

 

And not easy to find a good one

The fact that they made more F40's than 959s just shows the popularity of the F40. Initially Ferrari felt a production run of 425 street F40 models would be difficult to sell out. They ended up building 3 times as many due to the demand for them. Which today perhaps makes it a little easier to find a fine example. Greater production numbers just follows a pattern of Ferrari models becoming more popular over the years. As for the competition they have had trouble moving their products as easily as Ferrari has...

Your comparing it to some of the lowest production cars though.

Compared to ANY "normal" car about 1300 units is TINY!

Ryan, God knows how we love the F40, but the F40 is not a "normal" production car, so your comparison with normal production numbers is moot.

It is is a Ferrari Supercar, and in that context, they made a LOT. Almost 5 times the GTO! Almost 4 times the F50... and so on...

Even compared to some other non-Ferrari Supercars as illutrated by Craigy, they made a lot.

But as Of Two Worlds points out, "a lot" is not necessarily a bad thing from the point of view of popularity or production success.

Maybe so, but when you go by spec it narrows it down alot. What was there 200 something USA versions? Not to many to choose from....

 

Lets say there are 200 F40s in the USA. How may GTOs are there in the USA? Or how many USA F50s, by comparison?

Whichever way you look at it, Euro cars or USA cars, F40 numbers are relatively high for a Ferrari Supercar.

But again, there is no doubt that the model was quite popular and in that context, very successful for Ferrari...
