I would tell him that his first call needs to be to his accountant. Not sure where he is or how much $$$ he has, but the fractional deal is basically owning just that, a fraction with all the associated costs. It would be a lot less headache just to charter when you need it, unless he has a little one and needs to own the plane to make up the difference.

nah.. i think.. he wants to have the "bragging power" to tell some ppl.. . that he also owns his own plane.

There is a growing trend In Asia.. places like China and India.. where having a plane.. just elevates you on the social ladder.

I would be happy just flying business class.. and having a an enzo.. hee..
well. i can dream.. cant i

well, thats quite a good idea..
i know of some corporations that block buy for their own use.

I would personally fly on normal airliness

With regards to regulations, I am also not aware of the relugations they have in singapore, but i guess.. this is something he has to go himself.

Fair enough. It's his money. He should find a good management company that can get him set up for ownership, can do charter, and can help him buy a plane.

Wait until he's on the ramp in his lear next to a G550. Then ask him how he feels about his spot on the social ladder...:D

great post, a fractional may be just what this person needs. i am amazed by how many single aircraft are "owned" and used by so many. one thing i do see, if the aircraft is used alot, they last much longer and have much few Flight Squawks and "issues" pop up , as opposed to Hangar Queens that sit for extended periods of time, and then get used hard. machines like to be used, and they are alot of 135 Operators out there now, versus Part 91.

    :)

650 is great. but we on the inside have been waiting for it to be "public" for some time. its going to be a phenomenal aircraft , and i am saying this knowing i may not stay with GD, as i want to be a CATIA V5 Design Engineer, not a mechanic.

great thread. perhaps i should be quiet now and stick to the old carb cars i love............

I've known about the 650 for just over a year now, but at that time everything was rumor and heresay because nobody could confirm or deny what was actually coming. Remarkably, the rumors were very close to reality. It's about time Gulfstream got a cabin that could compete with the GX. That has always been Gulfstream's Achilles Heel, IMO - tube size. Challenger is wider than GIV/IVSP/450 and Global has been bigger than GV/550. The performance of the Gulfstreams has always been second to none, but when you're 6'2" or taller (I'm 6'2"), you notice a couple of inches of headroom.

Could be. My friend Ricky is bring his Citation back to Sierra Avaition for it's annual, then it's back to Europe. If I'm done with this trial, it's my intention to assist with the flying, which means I'll be in your town on the way to Sierra Aviation. I'll keep you and Russ posted.

I've got a Baron which is pretty neat, and works well for me, but it doesn't handle a lot of weather, and is somewhat slow for trips over 500 miles, and it looks like I'll be getting a Citation 501 sometime next year. They are dropping like stones in price, so I thought I'd get one, if the numbers work out. We have a decent mechanic who is very well qualified, and we'll have him take care of 3 planes, so we can keep him on full time. I think the operating costs are going to be about 250k/year fixed costs, and about 1000/hour for variables, so if we use the plane for about 200 hours, our yearly expenses will be about 450k, which is doable. I'm looking for a Citation with RSVM and the Eagle conversion (long wing) with the 1A engines, mid time, with the hot section behind them. From what I've seen, those are going for about 750k or so, down from about 1.4 less than 3 years ago. I think that if the price of oil drops, these will go back up to prior values, so we might even make a little money on the plane. (dreaming)

tell your friend, Lear is great in terms of getting you there faster but it is impractical when traveling for recreation and the need of more luggage is required. More often then not I'm looking for a Citation II to swap some hours on in order to get my families bags into. Lear, great to get me to another town fast for business, Citation great for getting out of town for a week for R&R. Hence buy interest in several jet type(s) depending upon one's need.

+1 for the Lear. This morning 7 of us took off in the 55 and landed 500 miles away in about the time it takes to board a commercial jet.
A 55 can hold the 8 you requested in a pinch with one on a jump seat. The range is close to your request I think. It is a fast little sucker too. Home by dinner time. It's always a good day traveling in the Lear.

Good luck with the search for a plane. A plane is very much a hole in the sky you throw money into. Operation costs are quite large, crew pay is not cheap (as mentioned), and remember your pilots need their license renewed (again not cheap), pay for your crew's travel expenses, and so many other variables. Aviation is my father's business (www.Proavi8or.com). He has managed both lears and challengers. Both are expensive to run. But if it makes sense for them, well that is great. I have seen many people buy jets and lose everything doing so, as they mistaken it like a car, thinking you would just pay for gas and oil changes. Most planes have at least minor issues each trip. Minor issues cost $$$$$$$. Again, best of luck.

Not quite 60. The 650 will be 60+. 550 is definitely over 50, though. I want to say low 50s if you're willing to wait your turn in line.
