Is the Kentucky dude the guy whom had all those craptastic statues and the yellow diablo? Walked around his house saying I payed $50K for this. This lamp was $80K.

Kingair, I think my grandfather won like $3500 before. :D

yeah thats the guy, lost his badass $1.5m+ home in Ballenisles over $4800 in HOA dues....Turned out to still be a real pos person depite the image he portrayed in the first episode, let his young daughter skip school while he was in his bedroom doing blow and smack.

I think a family member won a few thousand once. Also, anecdotally, my uncle said his partner (European) used to play the lottery online with a bunch of friends. They would play thousands of random different number combos, and apparently they won a few times, but lost perhaps more than they won. I say this is anecdotal, so it might be BS - can you even play the lottery online like this?

This whole curse of the lottery stuff sounds like bunk. It probably has more to do with the fact that those who typically win do not know how to cope with newfound wealth. I'm sure if Warren Buffet won the lottery, he would be fine. Or then again, maybe not... *dun, dun dun*

The lottery could be the stupidest thing that people ever get involved with. The odds of winning are astronomical yet people continue to buy their tickets every week, it infuriates me.

My Grandmother won $2,100 on a ticket I gave her for mothers day. That's the only time I buy lotto tickets and I don't recall her ever buying one.

I was filling up my car and went in to buy a coke. The dirt bag in front of me buys a 40 oz. Bud, a pack of cancer sticks and 3 $1 scratch off tickets. He stands there in line wthout moving out of the way and scatches them off. All were losers of course. I said to him, "That was a good investment". He turns around and looks at me, laughs and says "Easy come, easy go".

What's wrong with spending a few bucks for a shot in the dark at winning. You've never wasted a few bucks on something someone else could see as useless and dumb?

It's better then taxing other people to get that extra money.

Yes, in the millions of dollars. It's been 15 years since they've won. I'd say they are still doing ok, the husband just bought his 3rd Ferrari :)

My dad won a couple of grand when we immigrated from Mexico. It allowed him to take his medical board exam a year earlier

Some people habitually spend $10/$20 a week on lottery tickets.
$10 x 52 weeks x 50 years= $26,000 instead why not invest it and have some money to play with in your retirement.

Don't get me started on the money wasted on cigarettes either

It's not so much bunk as it is exactly what you said - the inability to cope with newfound wealth. If someone is bad at managing their money when they don't have any, they're not going to get better if they get a lot. Look no farther than Jose Canseco and Latrell Sprewell for more examples. It doesn't just hit lotto winners.

I agree. Compared to the other monumentally dumb and useless stuff I have spent money on, a $1 lottery ticket is cheap and fun!

Well that's true ... and these people are probably on some form of government aid to boot ... not to fuel your fire or anything.

and how much do people spend on cigarettes/alcohol whatever? At least a lottery ticket has SOME chance of a return.
