    Joe,
EE-plates are only valid for a some months (as far as I know). Not sure if they work for a used car that was sold within Italy to a foreign owner.

    Ciao!

Perhaps because of its perilous financial situation circa 1978/79, the works sold Countachs to special order only on payment-by-cash basis. According a majority of the 49 LP400S Seres One cars were collected from the factory by their well-heeled owners themselves and driven away .... anyone have any more EE plated cars identified?

EE.70267 - Armin Johl. Crashed & destroyed by Valentino Balboni when only month old. Klippan harnesses. Red/tan. #1012.
EE.70510 - ?? Imaged on the official factory owner's manual. Britax harnesses. Red/tan.
EE.70559 - ?? Featured in Sport Auto magazine in 1979. Red/white with black dash & LP400 steering wheel.
    EE.93717 - Gene Boston. Red/tan. #1034.
EE.98407 - Steve Dypvik. Driven away by Dan Morgan. Red/tan/wing. #1036.

I also notice within a few months the numbers went up from the 70000 range to the 90000 range.... interesting and I wonder why?

Here is an article from Finnish American car magazine (V8 Magazine) from year 1984. Perhaps only non American car featured in that magazine...

In the 80s the press loved to be cynical & pessimistic about Supercars, and the Countach was a special target. I always took that to mean "I must have one..."

I don't know anything about license numbers, but maybe this could help. My 73 Fiat 500, sold new in Rome & imported to USA, came with & still has the EE plates on it.

Excellent! The number denotes the period here they used the black background with while letters and used the square rear plate.

When they went to the white plates circa 1983 they standardized front & rear sizes...(attached)

    hi Joe

2 reasons for EE plates, a "sort of custom" plate only for people living outside italy!:

    - non italian citizen "di passaggio" (for limited time in italy)
    - italian citizen that lives in a foreign country

    and 2 kind of cars:
    - NEW, bought for export from Italy (all the cars you are talking about)
    - imported in Italy from a foreign country (not common, because they could drive them for 6 months without italan plates, may be to extend this from 6 to 12 months)

the EE is a TEMPORARY plate for 4 months, could be extended for very peculiar reasons for 1 year though

the plates are similar to normal italian plates of the era, so black with wite numbers for 70's cars and white on 80's
    the plates has:
italian republic badge, a rectangular space where you have expiration date, I, EE, and then numbers, letters or both(depending on period)

    hope this helps

    correct
the white plates have same size front-rear while the older has smaller fronts

please note the white plates also have letters, while the black ones only have numbers

    tks for sharing

as you can see EE plates are car related and not person related

p.s. on an other note these pics show very well how good low roof cars look

if you want a factory countach with Wolf car's look you simply have few options:

    - a real Wolf car
    - a serie uno car
    - 1120222 or Spazzapan's car

    Emilion,
this is also with the 50ies/60ies-car. Correct?

But I strongly assume those plates are not related to a specific person or company, or...?

    Ciao!

    ciao Walter,
    yes, you are correct

plates are related to cars IMO and never last longer than 1 year! the small red numbers (when presents....) indicate when they expire

this one in pic is a 59-74 EE tipo plate that can be used until year 1960

from around 1976 the EE plates are in 1 line only (like all the S countachs posted here)

p.s. about the "very diffferent numbers in so close time" quetion by Joe: plates are NOT only related to time but also to many different offices in Italy, so Roma has some numbers dedicated and other cities has some others numbers and , for example, a 11 March 78 plate in Bologna could be 1000 numbers short of a 12 March plate still in Bologna (just to give the idea)

interesting to note the letters and numbers on EE plates are always WHITE ( while the city was in orange on some years on regular rear plates)
