In properly functioning conditions I assume it's normal for the oil low pressure warning light to light indefinitely when switching the key to 'on' or momentarily light upon ignition and then extinguish as pressure jumps to normal. That's right, right? I'm asking only b.c. yesterday - after changing the oil (Baldwin 253, 9qts oil, new crush washer, no leaks > i.e. job done w.no problems) - this is what happens whereas in the 3 mos I've had the car I don't recall seeing the warning light come on in any condition. No electrical work has been abnormal/broken/done recently either.

Yes, it is normal for it to light until startup and then for a moment just prior to getting up to pressure. If it lights at any other time stop driving ;)

This is the problem with warning lights -- "dead" (i.e., no light ever) sometimes gets interpreted as "things are OK" when it shouldn't be. You should read your OM -- they did a reasonable job describing how to operate and how it should operate with some good bits of information that any Owner/Driver will find useful IMO.

I've actually read it twice but don't recall anything beyond the light going out after pressure builds immediately after ignition. I shall re-read this section :)
