I have been looking for an 05 F430, then I saw an 06 with this option, a carbon fiber rear challenge grill. I know it's common on the 360 but never seen it on an F430. Is it an after market or a factory option?

It was an option on my 07 F430. I think around $2800. The ones on the 360 are not cabon fiber.

Like Sam said, it's a F430 factory option..........the option code is "GRDC" and is called "Challenge Style Rear Segment in Carbon Fiber".

I have this on my '07 430 also. I understand it was only available for a short period of time.

The challenge grill is a factory option. It can also be retrofitted as well, but it requires a new bumper. If you are looking for a pre-owned vehicle with this option, look for a mid year 2006 build or later. This showed up as a new option in MY2006 on builds starting in May.

So it's safe to say , it's a good thing to have? The reason I said that because it looks like the one on "The" Scuderia and i don't want people to think I have it on my car because I want my car to look like a Scuderia by getting an imitation for it!

Thanks to all that chime in.

I ordered it on my 08. I like the regular F430 rear but (to me anyway) this one makes the car look just a bit meaner and a bit lower.

Plus, I'm told it cools better and I'll be running it in some pretty hot environments. I'm not sure how many F430's have been made with it but I think it's fairly rare in the total production run. I didn't even realize it was on the Scuderia until after I ordered it. I knew it was the Challenge race cars.

My understanding is that a "retro fit" runs about 14 grand. So, unlike the realitively easy 360 swap, a 430 retro fit may not be worth it given the cost involved.

Personally, I like the 430 either way but I really like the 360's to have Challenge grills.

The Scud has a grill that looks like the one on our F430s... our cars were out first :)

I don't think anyone would consider you ripping off a Scud if you ordered your F430 with the CF grill. I, too, think the F430 looks better with the CF grill than without.

When I had my 360, I had a Challenge Grill and no one suggested I did this to look like the CS.

Order it with your car... it's an awfully expensive retrofit after the car leaves the factory.

It's also on the F430 Challenge car...........it's an authentic factory option for the F430 which exists prior to launching the Scuderia. It's a great looking option and also aids the engine cooling.......the mesh on the CF Challenge grille is larger than the mesh in the standard F430 bumper.
I also have the CF rear Challenge grille on my F430 and I love it.

When I put my hand up to the grill after the engine warms up it is very obvious that a lot of heat is escaping the engine compartment via this grill. As the rear grill is near the exhaust system and muffler, this seems to make sense.

I think the challenge grills look great on the 360's.

However, IMO, on the F430's, the challenge grill has too much flat surface area and looks a bit out of place, like an aftermarket piece of add on, unless of course you have a black car that blends it in a bit better.

I was browsing through some of the 430 pics on FChat and it seems to me that you will find the rear challenge on more non US cars. Is this just a coincidence?
