Hi, I'm new in this section. Presently, I'm owning a 400i A 1983, which my wife never has considered a "real" Ferrari, since it is silver coloured. By coincidence I came across a (red/tan) Testarossa 1993 with less than 29 tkm (< 20 kmiles) in immaculate condition (new timing belt, freshly serviced and authority checked). There is a chance to trade-in my 400i plus 25000 $ cash. Would this be a reasonable deal?
In almost every objective aspect, the 400i is offering better value for money however on emotional grounds, the TR is what people consider a real Ferrari which is also tempting me.

    Regards

    Peter

That car would be a 512TR being a 1993? I don't know what to say on dollar/euro values, did you mean euros?

Value aside - I would much rather have the Testarossa. Nothing against the 400i, but the mid-engine is much more car from my viewpoint.

Use the force! Go with the gut. Both are great cars.

My 2 cents.................. not having the opportunity to own and drive a 12 cylinder Ferrari is like................ stringing a bunch of Thursday's together.

She has first been registered in Switzerland in 93 although it is a Testarossa, not a 512TR. That would mean that sha has been stored or used on dealer plates before that date. The cash payment on top of the trade-in is actually in Swiss Francs, which is today nearly equivalent to US$.

First point - for clarity, I would try to pin down a real value on each car - rather than just thinking about the "difference".

But having said that, depending on your value sense of the 400i, (and it's current market value in your area), I think I would offer 20K difference and see what happens...unless, of course, you can find a way to buy it and still keep the 400i.

Like my grandfather used to say - you never know how far a frog will jump until you push him in the butt with a nice sharp stick -

BTW - Kenco; he already has a 12 cylinder Ferrari, right? But, I agree - the Testarossa is somehow "more 12 cylinder Ferrari-like" in all it's glory. And it is, of course, the correct color!

You might be better off buying a car with a few thousand miles on it. I feel like with a car that hasn't been driven at all really is much more prone to have mechanical problems.

Yeah! I got mine, and I will never sell it!

Once you acquire a super car like a Testarossa it becomes part of the family!

Didn't he post it had about 20K miles? My 86 showed 21,500 when I got it and is about 23K now...basically OK thus far...

Now that color ad group "The Stable" at the back pages of R & T are showing I think an '88 with only 4K miles for 88K this month - that really is some pretty low miles!
