i don't think i'd want to be "itched" into the future but i can think of about 100 or so people i'd love to see go to mars or any other place as long as it's one way.

Lunacy. The government is not going to spend money on a kamikaze suicide mission to Mars.

If sane individuals want to do it, why not? The primary issue would be that it has proven to be extremely difficult to land safely on Mars, most of the unmanned missions have been failures. If they can perfect the procedure, and locate ice in sufficient quantities under the surface, possibly he/she could survive for some time. Possibly even long enough to find a way to get them home or bring them supplies.

Perhaps it would be better to launch several satellites for Mars containing supplies, and a single individual could travel and orbit, managing the exploration from above.

Or rather than wasting a few hundred billion, just use those resources to end dependence on fossil fuels right here on Earth.

Mars sounds like the ideal place for both political parties to hold their conventions ;)

Not really, but probably more than the average guy. I'm sure there are people here that know a lot more about it than me.

I'm so sick of hearing about Mars. Quite frankly, I don't give a ****. Let's concentrate more on discovering and creating more things on Earth.
