I've never ever parked in 2 parking spaces. That's just arrogant no matter what you drive. (unless you drive in a car that shatters into a billion pieces if it gets a ding.) I almost always park in the right corner parking space in a crowded parking lot. If a corner spot is not available I might sit in the car and wait 20minutes until one becomes available. I love my car so I am willing to search and wait for a spot, but I won't cause inconvinience to other people by taking up 2 spaces.

Never, ever. It's bull****, just as much so as pulling into one spot half-assed screwing up the whole row.

I just park wherever, between two beaters, trucks, it doesn't matter.

I use on occasion, my beater Comanche to park 3" off people's vehicles who use more than one spot unnecessarliy. I have no issue with crawling out of the passenger side of the Jeep, as I know it'll inconvenience them more than I to have to crawl in through the wrong door for entry. Besides, I don't think I'd notice another dent or scratch on it, should they do a "I'm-mad-at-you-for-parking-close-to-me-because-I-parked-fat-in-my-car/truck/SUV-because-I'm-better-than-everyone" retalitory door ding.

I have. I normally park far away and walk. Makes the girlfriend mad. If I am in something that I am going to park in two spots I always try and go as far away as possible.

I don't mind seeing it when the car obviously costs more than most people make, salary-wise, in a year. The vast majority of people are inconsiderate and have no regard for other people's property. Door-dings and scratches are a reality - personal responsibility for those who cause them through thoughtlessness or carelessness is as rare as a tastefully-colored Lamborghini. Most Joe-Blow citizens, after backing-into, scratching or denting someone else's rare/expensive car will go 'Oh, ****!!!" and flee to avoid having to pay $$$ to make things right. A good door ding isn't an insurance issue if your deductible is $1,000 or more - that door ding is out of your own pocket.

I came across that photo on Flickr a while back. The person who took the pic and left the note looks 100x worse in my opinion. Self-righteous ass.

Some jackass did that today at lunch in a BMW X5, It's hard enough to find parking spot at my favorite grub hole. I couldn't help myself but voice my opinion when I walked in. Turns out to be some snot nose high school punk in their mommy's SUV. Go figure.

I always pick the end spot or a corner next to a planter, then hug it as far as I can.

It has nothing to do with being too uptight or not being able to afford it.

Unlike some people here I drive my Ferrari, almost everyday, this means it goes to the grocery store, home depot, and just about anywhere I need to go.

Unfortunately many people in America are overweight or simply do not care about other peoples property. After watching some lady in her SUV swing her door open and give me pretty decent sized door ding, I decided I'm just going to start double parking. Sure I MAY get keyed, but potentially getting keyed is alot better than getting dinged a few times a week.

I apologize that I work for what I have and respect and value it, maybe one day I can be as fortunate and wealthy as you to where I don't care about my personal property. Until then I'll enjoy taking your space.

    Best,

Parking in 2 spots is rude and inconsiderate regardless of anyones personal reasons. You can do it but at least admit you are rude and inconsiderate.

I do not park in two spaces regardless of what my vehicle costs. If I dont think my vehicle is safe in a particular lot then I should have brought a different one !

As for the argument that 'my car is worth xxx...and worth more than most make in a year'... too bad.

There are people out there with $10m cars that will think your little $200k ferrari is a beater. And there are people that have a $20k car that means the world to them....Its all relative and anyone that thinks differently is a snob of the ugliest sort.

I have had my viper and F355 dinged and keyed in parking lots. ITS A CAR. GET OVER IT. If its too precious to be driven in public stick it in your..ahem...garage.

Hell no. I understand being very careful about where ones park's his exotic car, but that's no excuse to be a prick. If it's overly crowded and you just won't park like everyone else, then don't park there at all. Besides, there are way too many people that will see that as an excuse for vandalism.

    Well said.

If doesnt really matter if your take up two spots far away from everyone else, but if you do so in a crowded lot...well how rude! :D

Touch up paint. I use mine as a daily, at times, too. Dings are a part of it.

But there are a couple of things to think about.

Grocery stores: That's one place where I don't mind parking next to a minivan. Sure, they can't see me. But I can be in and out of the store with all the groceries a 328 will carry (express lane) in the time that minivan driver will be herding the pack of rug rats through the checkout line. ;)

Empty spaces: bad. Leave an empty space next to your car, and you'll likely find a rusty pickup in it when you return. (I think they're hoping their vehicle will learn something. ;)) And that's if you're lucky. What you might get is someone bashing up your car trying to pull in, and then leaving. You're better off looking for a car that's been maintained to park next to -- Find someone else who cares about keeping the paint intact. (Hitting your car doesn't do his paint any good either.) (Back in the '70s, in a crowded lot at work, an MG, a Spitfire and my Alfa used to share two spots for the three of us -- we trusted each others' driving, and nobody else would be parking there.)

Pillars, posts, curbs, even the shopping cart return stand can all be things that will keep other vehicles from moving in that area.

I don't mind the odd ding. The guys who scrape the door along the paint are a pain. But what worries me are the people who can't get clear of a car they can barely see before turning the wheel. (Ever notice how many SUVs have crumpled right rear corners? "Out of sight, out of mind" doesn't really work in parking lots.)

And an odd one: Standing water. It's astounding how many SUVs won't park in a space with a puddle in it. Any size puddle. Weird.
But nobody's moving fast enough in a parking space to throw up water, so parking next to a puddle may keep that side clear.

I've tried parking out in the boonies, or parking where it's open. It doesn't help -- people will park their wrecks there. But picking where you park seems to result in fewer issues.

And figuring on repainting eventually will allow you to drive daily without getting too wound up about it. After all, the parking lot isn't the only issue. There are stones tossed up by truck tires. And birds seem to seek out the shiny cars. ;)

Try parking a little farther away in one space. The walk might do you some good. Your selfish sense of entitlement is not pretty, sir!

I park as far away as I can, I don't take up two spots close to where I'm going unless I have to. But even when parking far I take up two spots.

Actually ive loaned all my cars to friends on many occasions. Even let my ex GF's 18 yr old brother take the F355 on a date with a girl once.

if you were my friend i would throw you the keys to any of my cars.

So yeah...it IS 'just a car'.

I dont see what that has to do with parking in two spots though... unless you are saying loaning your $100k car to a complete stranger is the same as getting a scratch ?

I was at walgreen yesterday, parked the porsche in one spot and when i got back , a bentley was parked on 2 spots. I thought it was really pompous. Parking spots in the US are already very wide that you dont really need to take 2 spots.

It is just a car, I do this with a select group of friends. You would not lend your honda to someone you do not really know, but what about your best friend?

As he said, it is just a car. If you think it too precious to take out of the drive way, or if you feel you deserve to make other people work harder because you have an exotic (And no, an M3 is not an exotic in my book) then you either do not deserve it or cant really afford it.

In my book if you have made it to the point that you can have these things, I expect better behavior from you. With greater ability also comes greater responsibility. It is the few of you out there that act like 3 year olds in your "precious toy" that make us all look bad.

    +1

Basically it sounds like the only people who love their cars, and respect others are only those with exotics. People could have a 1993 Civic with rust all over. The owner may cherish that car. Just because it looks like crap doesn't mean they don't love it, or respect the other cars around them.
