ok, I've read a few threads on CV Boot replacement but none seem to address where I'm stuck. How does the CV joint actually come off the half shaft? I understand there is a C-clip in there somewhere...but there's a pressed on metal cap on the transmission side. Any tips before I muck it up too much trying to pry it off?

    Thanks!

Jay- the circlip is at the end of the shaft... see pic. Just remove it, and the CV joint will slide off... may be a little tight. I hope you didn't pry off your cover.

Nice pic Rick; I can't see that yet, it seems for the 355 that's all underneath a pressed on end cap that has to be pried off.

Use a small hardwood block and a mallet and just go around a couple times tapping it off. It's pressed on but not too tightly. Don't damage the metal ring that the boot attaches to.

Had the same need to change in inner CV boot. In situ access is so poor, I found much much more convenient to remove the complete hub assembly. No problem there to remove the CV cover and the clip, nor to remove the CV from the shaft splines. Hope it helps ...

Sorry Jay... I have a 348, and was thinking that's what you had. My shafts don't have a cover, and are just exposed as shown. I imagine that's original, but there's no parts breakdown for it, so who knows?

Great ideas Tim and Eric...both worked like a charm. Thanks!

Now here's the real problem...I knew once I got this far I'd have a dilemma...it looks soo easy to get those suspension arms off now for powder coating. Hmmm...this project just may never end :D

Not that easy.....all of the a-arm bushings will have to be removed. If you remove them the next thing is you'll want new ones and Jay you don't even want to know what those things go for.
