Kubica wants 'best option' for F1 future
    Wed 04 Jun, 06:59 PM F1Live.com

Robert Kubica is refusing to give any hints about the likely shape of his bright future on the Formula One grid.

The 23-year-old Pole is arguably the most impressive driver of the class of 2008 so far, driving his BMW Sauber to within six points of Lewis Hamilton's championship lead.

Kubica's meteoric start to this season triggered rumblings about his future, as rumours suggest that - notwithstanding BMW's apparent option to extend his contract into 2009 - Ferrari and Renault are interested.

His current boss, Mario Theissen, revealed recently that BMW Sauber's 2009 driver lineup will be unveiled in the summer.

Kubica said: "I would just like the best option for me, but we will see what it will be."

"For now I am just concentrating on this year and doing the best job possible. Then we will have to see," he is quoted as saying by the news agency AP.

I think he is a very good, and humble driver.
I wish him the best in F1.

So how does this mean FA isn't signed? It didn't say Kubica was signed either. It could be FA / RK in '10 (Lol yeah right)

    Kubica tight-lipped on future plans
    Thursday 5th June 2008

Robert Kubica is refusing to comment on rumours that he's heading to Ferrari soon, saying for now he's concentrating on his career with BMW.

The 23-year-old has caught the eye of BMW's rivals after an impressive start to the season that has yielded three podium finishes and a maiden pole position.

This would make alot more sense than the NANDO rumours. This reminds of KIMI way more than NANDO's spin does.

With the results though have come the rumours.

And those have linked the Pole to both Renault and Ferrari with the latter emerging as the favourite to sign him when his BMW deal expires at the end of this season.

Kubica, though, is remaining tight-lipped about the speculation.

"I would just like the best option for me, but we will see what it will be," he told the Associated Press.

He's being tight-lipped because he doesn't have any plans yet with any other team and doesn't want to jeopardize his position with BMW by openly discussing other options.

I think Kubicka is as tied to BMW as Hamilton is to McLaren, I don't see him going anywhere.

Possibly but he is free contractually now as his contract ends this year. I think we have a mover in this guy to somewhere else. My only guess is he goes to Ferrari and Felipe hits the road. Kimi drives with Robert next year and then who knows at that point. I think Kubica would really push Kimi. Of course this is my opinion and as always could be totally wrong.

I originally put this up for a laugh and was only half serious but now re-reading the PF1 post and his availability, I think Kubica is on the move.

I would have to agree with you Ted, BMW will not let him go. Nor would Ferrari replace anyone wih RK, his performance no better than Massa. Unless Kimi leaves.

Disagree with you on that one Ron. Kubica is several leagues above Massa IMO and his future is much much brighter. Massa at Kubica's stage was super inconsistent. Kubica can rightfully be spoken of in the same breath as Hamilton

I think you're probably right, I don't see BMW letting him go anytime soon especially with the success he has brought them. Also if BMW can keep being competitive and improve throughout the season they should be up there with Ferrari and McLaren.

Remember Jenson Button a few years ago? Podiums and a win? This reminds me of that. If JB's car was still good he would be in the running. Did JB all of a sudden become a crap driver? I doubt it.

I can never tell the true skill of a driver because it seems driver/car/team combo is so important. It' like the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

I doubt BMW would let Kubica as well, also if they signed him for next year the question still has to be asked, does Kimi or Felipe go? I doubt a move will be made driverwise at Ferrari until Kimi retires, unless one of them really F's up big.

Why not both? (I know, I know, Kub is too fast for Nando) :)

Kubica is free and is not under contract for next year. "Best option" speaks volumes! He has things going on and Renault own Nando. He has a contract and has to do 2 yrs there. RK is free and no one wants to pay off Renault. FM lost his protector in J Todt. This bears watching. Ferrari isnt out squashing this.

if kubica is a free agent next year the timing won't work too well with a possible ferrari signing since both drivers will still be committed. alonso's gonn a be driving the red car come 2010 just wait and see.

He has plenty of exit clauses. If Alonso wants to leave at the end of the season, he can.

Its funny reading how Alonso can move anywhere he wants but Kubica cant. I smell some getting red faced if someone other than alonso goes to Ferrari........I love it ......... come on Kubica!

His deal is 2 yr min because thats all he could get. Not a single team wanted Nando's 1yr deal. Ghosn recently stated it would be great if Nando stuck around. That means hes not going anywhere. They own him for 1 more season. He is stuck and he knows it. Hence his spin mouthing off rumor mill. Too bad he left Mclaren. Kubica is in a very very strong position. He has no one to answer to. Its just that simple. One man is free, the other isnt.

McLaren "owned" Alonso for two years too, we all saw what happened with that. Contracts mean squat when people want out of them in F1. Money makes everything go away.

Your correct about that, and that has been the situation forever in F1.

RD agreed to let him leave. Renault are not so accomodating. Fernando can leave if he has another team and they pay his contract with Renault saying go. That wont be happening next year. Certainly Ferrari are better off to hire RK than pay for Fernando with Kimi on board. Ferrari isnt squashing this rumor but they have wasted no time shutting Nando's down.
