I am going to cheat this discussion a tad and ask an off topic question.
Seeing so many Countries represented here, where should i go on my next vacation.
Scenery, things to do, eat and tour in a rented Ferrari.I would hate to have to buy and sell one for a 2 week stay.
Germany would be my first choice.
I appreciate comments if this should be posted somewhere else as i am new here.

What's your focus on "things to see"? Like, do you want to visit castles and cathedrals for 2 weeks or are you, whatever, planning to go clubbing every night and sleep through the days? Tell me what you're interested in and I surely can tell you some places worth visiting.

I love to eat and eat and eat.
I also love to shop and drive.
Went to Death Valley once and almost shot myself.
    Hope that narrows things.
    I appreciate your help.

Rather than renting, why don't you ship your 430 over there?

I hate to flatbed it to the dealer for service.

Not too sure why but i guess i can be anal?

I recommend France. I've toured the majority of it by car, hitting most of the major cities as well as many small ones over 3-4 weeks, mainly driving scenic. It's absolutely beautiful. Monaco is alright if you want to be around a bunch of rich people, living luxuriously. The city of Eze is far nicer, as it isn't filled with high rises, overlooks the sea, and is located between Nice and Monaco on one of the most beautiful scenic roads in the world.

The Luberon region is also wonderful. I'd very much like to retire there. There are few things I love more than eating, and I assure you, you will be well fed in France. As for shopping, just make your way to Paris, though perhaps avoid driving in it, as driving in cities like that is a PITA. Far more difficult than NYC, as it's not layed out in a simple grid. Hit up Avenue Montaigne for the boutique shops for every highend fashion designer. Boutique can be found for Armani to Zegna. But remember, anything you buy in France can be bought in the US, and is not only priced higher relatively speaking, but the currency will obviously rape you. Best off just shopping in NYC if I were you.

France really does offer it all. You can experience so much. From driving through the Alps, to driving along the Med, to visiting chateaus in the Loire Valley. Vastly different scenery in each. You will also be able to drive into Italy, Germany, and Switzerland if you want. There are so many historical places with tons of stuff to see. I was kind of exhausted after 3-4 weeks of driving and such, but it was possibly the best vacation ever, and I will be doing it again when I ship my car there.

Switzerland is also a lovely place. It really is like a fairy tale. Though there are not as many places to go. It's draw is the country side and scenery. Geneve is a very expensive city with lots of shops. Lake Gevene is one of the most beautiful places in the world IMO.

If you want to take your car to the limit, just hop across the border for a bit in Germany, hit up an Autobahn, and come back. I've not been many places in Germany, but I imagine it's very nice.

Italy is a beautiful country as well, but don't count on being able to rent a nice car and take it there. Lots of auto theft and most places won't allow it without paying more, and I wouldn't doubt that an exotic dealer would flat out say no.

Wherever you decide to go, if you are doing a driving vacation, get a GPS. It will save your life, especially in the cities and when trying to find the hotel. I did a few weeks without it the first time, and I don't know how, because I would have been completely lost in France without it. It will help you get to the smaller places that aren't so easy to find but are well worth seeing.

If you would like any more info on France, let me know. I can give you a lot of advice on how to go about it. It was an amazing trip and I highly recommend touring it by car.

One last thing. If you don't want to buy and sell a car while there, why not just ship yours there and back? All these western countries will allow you to do that. Will probably be a lot cheaper too, as those exotic car rentals are a rip off in USD, so plan on them being 1.6rip off in the EU.

Sidebar - has anyone ever thought about an Fcar owners swap club - ie I come to your country and use your Fcar and you do the same in my country? Huge issues I know, since there are lots of local Fcar owners I wouldn't let near my car, but an interesting idea?

    +1

    my own comments:
If you have the extra money, do a small road trip from the western spanish coast of valencia all the way to St.Tropez (or monaco if you cant resist the extra 2 hr drive.) You will have a ample time to drive and enjoy, aswell as time to see some pictuesque scenery in the process. (If you had even more time, you would extend the journey to San Remo, which is the first major italian city nearest to the French riviera *besides Ventimiglia*)

Eze is very nice as he said and VilleFranche (within Nice) is lovely as well.. Menton is the most relaxing, but may be abit too quiet - and is actually further past Monaco itself. It all depends on the amount of driving you would prefer.

    good luck

it would be fun to drive the ring. i'm not sure i'd personally get a kick out of monaco but it would be fun to drive part of the circuit there as well. the hairpin, the tunnel, etc. paris: it would be fun to drive around the arc de triomphe.

i'd rather rent a M-car (M3, M5-6) or P-car for the ring... better cars to track when you know you have to pay if anything goes wrong...

When in Europe I always rent a rather pedestrian vehicle, rather than something high end.

Parking is a drag in most places and when the car is parked I like to forget about it.
(Don't really care much if it gets scratched or dinged)

I know if I rented a luxury vehicle I won't enjoy myself as well.

    Cheers

P.S. - Spain has some great roads for a sports car.
I rather like DaudiW's suggestion of a Valencia to St. Tropez route.

We were in France last summer for holiday and once you get out of Paris, the roads are incredible -- expensive to drive on -- but incredible.

We drove from Paris out to Normandy and then all along the coast checking out all the WWII museums and sites... pretty cool.

The roads were perfect... way better than anything I experience here in California. Of course, if I added up the tolls from any day's drive, it's clear where the money comes from to keep the roads in such great shape.

As was said before... unless you've got great insurance and won't mind driving the Ferrari like any other rental, you'd be better off getting a BMW or Audi. Parking is always the issue... not the mention the lack of room in the F-Car to carry anything.

We ended up getting a Diesel Audi A6 Wagon which was perfect for what we needed... comfortable, great nav system and tons of room inside.

In the end you need to decided between practicality and the Ferrari :)

French roads are very nice as well.. cops are rough on the motorways unfortunately - once you get to the backroads, its just you and the car.

I would say one of the best practical cars to rent, with abit of fun attached is a BMW 330d in 6spd . Brilliant car fair petro mileage and bmw response.
