Massa made a great pass...2 cars in one corner. Impressive. (I thought Massa couldn't pass). One of Massa's best races IMVHO ;)

He later admitted that he just lost it. But before that he criticized his team strategy; the whinning starts again.

Anyway, they were having a very good race. Good things are coming from Renault in the second half of the season.

SF's strategy and pit work has been criticized lately and someone back a few pages said it was caused by Jean Todt's absence.

I disagree. It's Ross Braun they miss. The Italian's miss his control to make it all work, all the time.

But just like last year. Who didn't get involved in the screw-ups and the politics? Who kept their head down and raced til the last minute? Did you see him walk by LH today, tap him, point at the light, and go on. Next race, advantage Iceman.

Right on the money. Few pages back I said they are missing JT, but I also had RB in the equation.
    Great post

Did someone say that Pam Anderson was in the Ferrari pits? Maybe that's why the team can't seem to get a pit stop right. ;)

Did someone else say that "anybody would have pulled off that hairpin pass"? Remember Alonso trying at Monaco and crashing? Remember Alonso trying on this hairpin, and almost crashing into Heidfeld *again*? (Heidfeld is Alonso's Kryptonite? :p) Phil pulled a regular rallye hook-the-kerb move and pulled it off.

Okay, good thing that was Heikki instead of DC. ;) But pushed out to the marbles, Kovi just couldn't get the power down. Massa giving Mac a taste of what the Ferraris were fighting in quali. :) As the beer commercial says: Brilliant!.

Great race. I'd have liked to seen more of it. (I think it was 22 or 23 laps of commercials from Fox, not counting the ads they ran over the action.)

Ferrari better spend the next two weeks practicing their pit stops.

And, in addition to repaving, the Canadian circuit better rig up some bigger red lights -- maybe with a big klaxton warning.

Sutil probably worried the track workers. When he saw the pit crash on the big screens, he probably fell over .... laughing. :D

imo, the pit crew was preoccupied by Kimi's pitlane incident instead of focusing on FM's car. Inexcusable and cost Massa another probable win.

I thought Massa's race performance was average at best, Nothing spectacular and far from a future champion's race result. Given the opportunity placed in front of him, he really failed to take advantage and go for the jugler while his competitors were down. I didn't see that killer instinct that so many past champions have showed. On the other hand, I still have my doubts about Hami as well. Certainly a very quick and talented driver, but when the pressure is on, he seems to choke...even when looking back to last year. Neither driver has proven to me that they are championship material.

Kimi's words post-race are so telling and honest. What a breath of fresh air compared to... ahem... The Ham-missle.

Kimi Raikkonen: "There's not much I can say. My race was ruined by Hamilton's mistake. Obviously, anyone can make mistakes, as I did two weeks ago in Monaco, but it's one thing to make a mistake at two hundred per hour but another to hit a car stopped at a red light. I am not angry because that doesn't achieve anything and does not change my result!

"I am unhappy, because I had a great chance of winning. Once the graining had gone from the tyres, the car was going very well. I have failed to score in these last two races and now it's time to start winning again. There is still a long way to go in the championship and it is still very close and we have everything we need to regain the ground we have lost."

Spoken like a WDC. I wish Alonso was in a better car. There would be some really epic stuff going on.

Wouldn't say so - some 7s passed between Kimi leaving the pit and Lewis ploughing into his rear end. I'm sure Massa wouln't have been left waiting for wheels/fuel for those 7s. If there was a problem it would have come up straight away, as it did...

something definitely happened which isn't disclosed by Ferrari. I mean the fuel line was working fine a few seconds before on KR's car. I am only raising an eyebrow and speculating...

All the other problems on the track, and there was a juggler out there too? :D

Was he next to a mime, walking against the wind?
(Running over a mime ought to be good for some points. I didn't know you could score for jugglers, though. ;))

(I thought I heard calliope music during the pit stops. :p)

Massa pulled off a pass on two cars in the hairpin. Alonso has failed to pull off a pass in a hairpin in the last two races -- including this one. So which one do people say isn't champion material?

Wow... Entitled to your opinion, surely, but I think this is SO wrong. Just because he didn't get on the podium doesn't mean it wasn't an outstanding drive. He drove hard, he drove smart, and he took some daring chances (in particular that overtaking move).

T me today was ridiculous. Although I am a Massa fan I realize his is not the next coming of Senna. How many times though is his race going to be blown by team screw ups. Looking at them over the last year and a half it is just simply unacceptable. For anyone here to say his march to 5th today given he was the only driver on a 3 stopper was not a good performance should share what they are smoking with the rest of us. I'll admit that if LH had not taken out himself and KR then PM would have lost points today rather than moved up the standings. HOWEVER - if the damn team did not ruin his race again i would give him at least a 50/50 shot at winning the race. From the wrong tires in the past to fueling issues to miscommunication this team makes a great car but can't service it for you know what!!!!!!!!!!!!!

<----- A furious Massa supporter. The team needs to pull their heads out of the sand.

You were not watching the same race as most of us?

Massa made serious on track passes, not typical of boring F1. He made the right decision not to try to pass Glock on a track that was breaking up. He came from nearly last due to a pit malfunction not his fault, did not give up and passed his way to fifth. Excellent performance, truly aggressive and smart. Even "foot-in-the-mouth" Baldesserri stated the same. He looked great and will be WDC. Maybe you were watching a different race.

Hamilton is very good but not great, in a great car, like Enzo said, its 60% car, 40% driver. Hamilton's success is still 60% car. As is Massa's, as is Raikkonen, as is Alonso's, etc.

Althought Fred was impressive today until he lost concentration. I would give Alonso 60% today to a 40% car.

Looks like another Massa hater, because even the commentators liked that overtake at the end. I haven't seen any other top drivers overtake two cars at once the way Massa did today. He was also affected by the pit strategy...As other Fchat members said you were probably watching another race if you say Massa's performance was average.

So if Kimi and Hami finish the race, Massa has an impressive 7th place finish in the Ferrari. And that is great? How'd he qualify anyway?
And the Maui Wowy is great!

Hamilton will loose 10 places on the grid in France as a consequence of the crash.

That is the minimum he deserves IMO.

Not a Massa hater, just a realist. Way too much credit was given for that 2 car pass. It fell into his lap and he had no intention of pulling that off. Both cars got in the marbles from the track breaking up and fell off line and couldn't get traction. All Massa did was thank them for the birthday gift on the way by. His performance at Monoco was far better as was his previous race. You guys are rindin' on the coat tails of his past two performances. I, unlike the rest of you, watch a race from a objective point of view.

The fact that this type of crash happens in F1 is ridiculous, these are professional drivers and they can't figure out to stop for a red light. Honestly Lewis deserves a points penalty because he stole about 10 from Kimi today.

IF Kimi did say this then all power to him, but it does seem like a lot of words from the Kimster, do you think someone has extrapolated a little ??

I wish there were some more tracks like this , it made for an interesting race and there was plenty of overtaking, some opportunistic and others just brilliant ... all depending on your standpoint.

I wished I had recorded it now so I could see just where the whole thing fell apart for so many of the teams but the one thing that seems obvious to me is that now that BMW have got a taste they will be even keener to get to the front and with RK and NH they have some very capable drivers and RK in particular is the genuine article, would not be surprised to see him win the WDC just from sheer consistency.

The Kimster is just starting to come good and FM just needs some luck to go his way, both are driving well with Phil just pipping KR atm but you get the sense KR is just winding up for the pitch

    BMW break through win!
    Mercedes reaction?
Mercedes-Benz Motorsport Vice-President Norbert Haug succinctly summed the day up as: “A race to quickly forget.”

    LOL

    As for the hairpin pass.
We often see a driver follow another through on a pass.
Massa did a lot more than that. No 'gift' involved.

Wait: you're sayin' that Massa passed two cars on the hairpin because he lost control of the car?

I don't get it. Massa is being criticized for passing cars and for not passing enough cars on the same race.

    Objective. Sure.

I'm with Tony. +1 on this post as well as your previous post Lindsay.

Kimi once again shows class durring an unfortunate time. I think it's funny how some feel that Kimi's incident in Monaco and LH's incident today are the same thing. Kinda like saying Molton Lava Cake and Vanilla Ice Cream are the same thing because they're both desserts. :D

Congrats to Massa. He brought the car home for some much needed constructor points. I'll leave my personal thoughts on his passing and his final results out of it. He did a good job with the hand he was dealt today.

Major congrats to Kubica and BMW! Job well done boys!
