Just curious, does anyone know who is the local person selling a red Daytona Spyder on Ebay? There's only one that I know of and the background of the pictures don't match their home.

I saw that car listed. It was represented as an original spyder, but it appeared to have the rear defrost (3 switches rather than 2) which I always believed was a sure tell tale of a "cut" car- Please correct me if I am wrong

Quote from ad: "This car faithfully portrays the original intentions and specifications from the factory." A prototype put together at the factory and than sold to the public? If so, the serial number should tell us were this car is at in the build series. The range we have for Spyders is 12851-17073 for all years of production of the Spyders. With a serial number of 16857 shown in the Ebay ad, this is not an early production Spyder. The range listed for the Coupe series is 12301-17615 for all years of production. For this car to be an early Coupe or Spyder or early prototype, its serial number would have to be much lower.

That's not the case, I'm not sure exactly what they mean by that description. Perhaps that it came out of the factory as a Spyder and not coupe later converted? There is only one prototype which is SN 12851. From Michael Sheehan here is the history of the car until 2000:

1974, 17 June, sold new to original owner Ben H. Bryant, Shaker Heights, OH. He was a fight (boxing) promoter. He paid $30,000. Kept the car until 1986.

1986, sold to Ferrari of Los Gatos.

1986, 26 Apr., sold by Ferrari of Los Gatos to Michael Sheehan, European Auto Sales, paid $130,000.

1986, 28 May, sold by Michael Sheehan, European Auto Sales to Cochran, Water Mill Properties, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, paid $145,000.

Sold while under restoration by Cochran to Sid Ferris, Oregon.

1987, 10 July, sold by Sid Ferris to Michael Sheehan at European Auto Sales.

1987, 10 July, same day sold to Eiichi Ida, Tokyo, Japan for US$ 645,000.

1992, 15 Oct., resold by Eiichi Ida, Tokyo, to European Auto.

1993, 5 Mar., sold by M. Sheehan, European Auto Sales, to current owner, paid $440,000.

1994, February, shown by current owner at the Cavallino Classic III meeting, Palm Beach, Florida. Best in class winner.

1998, 26 Mar., as per inspection by Mike Sheehan, a very nice car. Very nice older restoration. Great paint. Great detailing. Minor pieces on the AC under the dash missing. Minor dents on the top of the deck lid from people closing the trunk clumsily. Wayne Obry says that the tool kits and books are absolutely perfect (although I did not see them) down to the wiping rag, etc., etc.

1998, October, finished by Wayne Obry and back at the owner’s home in Hartland, Wisconsin.

2000, 28 Jan., owner called. Time to sell the car. Please put together an advertising campaign and market the car.

2000, 12 Feb., advertised for sale in the FML, half page ad, by Mike Sheehan.

What is not the case in my post? I said it wasn't a prototype because of the serial number of the car. I presented the range of serial numbers involved comparing them to the serial number of the subject car. You go on to present the history of the only prototype. What does that have to do with me showing why it isn't a prototype if there was 1, 5, or 10 prototypes?

Sorry I was unclear, I also misread your post. I was also pointing out that the car (the one on eBay) couldn't be a prototype put together by the factory as there was only one which had a serial of 12851. The history I posted is the one for sale on eBay, 16857. The Daytona Spyder prototype is actually in private hands and is yellow with a black interior.

Sorry, I also misread your original post. Looked over the fact that you were giving the history of the car for sale and not the prototype you mentioned. Mea Cupa. Mea Cupa. Mea Maxima Cupa.
