Does anyone know the history of the Daytona Spyder currently offered on eBay Motors (VIN 16857 US)? The description is copied word-for-word from a current listing of another Daytona (VIN 14389) by Fantasy Junction in Emeryville. Further, the Illinois license plate shows registration only to 02/06. Finally, there are no pictures of the engine. Should we be suspicious?

There is a red daytona spyder currently listed on E-Bay. It is being repped as an original spyder, but I noticed the 3 switches in the middle of the dash- one of which I think would be the rear defrost switch, which I have always heard was a dead givaway of a "cut" car. Please correct me if I am wrong

Serial # 16857 is listed in Gerald Roush's Daytona Serial Number list as a Spyder, US. Same as in his book "Daytona"

I believe that on a US Daytona, particularly a late one like this, the 3rd switch would be for the emergency flasher.

Daytona Coupes for the US in the later era would have had four switches: left fan, rear defroster, right fan, emergency flasher.

Three toggle switches below four levers is the configuration on a Spyder. The coupe has a fourth toggle switch for the rear defroster

this is a very correct daytona from what I can see in the pictures. A true spider. and a well restored one. It is a wow car, with a wow price tag.

The California emissions compliant statement is interesting. All cars built before 1976 are CA emissions complaint because there are no smog tests on cars built before 1976. It certainly makes 365 Boxers more attractive.

That's a 308, not a Daytona, column stalk switch in this car. No engine pictures, unless I missed them, so it is hard to say what is going on in there.

It certainly looks pretty. $1M would have been a steal.

This thing might as well be a stock certificate. It has traded as such and hasn't been used as enzo intended in over 20 years.

A shame too. Daytonas are robust cars. I drive them around more than some of my newer cars.

In fact, it's being used so little, its mileage is decreasing! 20,200 in '00; 22,300 the same year, then back to 20,858 for '05. If Ferris Bueller only knew all he had to do was not drive the car in order to erase mileage... :)
