    Need some help.
Looking for how to adjust the shifting linkage for a 89 mondial-t.
I went through the service manual but didn't see anything.
Car shifts very hard has 27k miles and a major service last year.

Man, I have seen this asked enough times that I just went and took some photos so that it will be available via the search function for the rest of time.

    Here ya go:

Put car in neutral. Beneath the car locate shift cable adjustment area under one of many belly pans. Work your way into the rubber shift cluster "box" to access the adjustments. Once found note orientation of current cable settings for reference (count the viewable threads for instance). With a 13mm release the cable adjustment lock. With a 10mm loosen & remove the cable attachment bolt & nut of one or both cable ends. Make adjustments to the end by turning it inward or outwards. I suggest one full turn (either in or out) at a time then re-test feel. Note: When the cable ends are not attached and the trans selector is in neutral you should be able to slip the 10mm bolt & nut combo -that attaches the cable end to the actual linkage pivot- right through the holes. You can make plenty of left or right cable adjustment within that parameter. Experiment with it noting what you have done in-case you need to reverse the movement. It may take several tries and you must drive the car to truly test your adjustments - so plan on some inconvenience in doing this. But any person with hand tools can get it done.

Where did I find the info?.. In my garage. That is my car, and my hands. I just went out & did it.

I went out there & did it so you and the forum would have the info. Hell of a contributor 'eh? Its not the 1st time someone has done that for FChat, or the last.

Nevertheless I have a bit of experience with these cars so I did not mind putting a bit of time in. Enjoy.

BTW are there any adjustments you have to make in the console with the shifting linkage ?

I have not needed to make any adjustments within the console but you may if you wish to. However I would think that if this issue happened after your major service that most likely its is because of an ill adjusted linkage at the location noted above. That linkage after-all is disconnected during the engine removal (which of course is required at major service intervals) and is most likely what the service center may have not correctly re-installed.
