Hamilton says there is no stopping him

Lewis Hamilton says "nothing can stop" his McLaren team this season, the Briton claiming he has already put his Canadian Grand Prix blunder behind.

The McLaren driver lost the championship lead to BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica in Montreal, after he crashed into the back of Kimi Raikkonen after failing to see the red light at the end of the pitlane in time.

Hamilton will also start the French Grand Prix on the back foot after receiving a ten-place grid penalty for the incident.

But the Briton, who was running strongly in the race before the crash, says the accident will not affect him, and he reckons that nothing can stop him now.

"This will make no difference," said Hamilton of the accident. "I t hasn't knocked me confidence-wise. I'm not gutted or disappointed.

"Going forward the mood is strong. The fact is we destroyed everyone this weekend. With the car we have right now there is no stopping us.

"It is not going to take me a day to recover or anything. I'll be up first thing training and really looking forward to Magny-Cours. You can't win them all.

Hamilton labeled the rule that cost him the crash and the penalty as "silly".

"We are baffled how it came to that in the space of 30 seconds," he said. "They fuelled me longer I had two guys in front of me and suddenly they have stopped as I have looked at the red light.

"Personally I think the rule is silly. We are in the race, how can you see a red light at the end of the pitlane? But that's the rule and I accept it."

But the 21-year-old admitted that starting from the middle of the pack in France will give him added motivation.

"I start ten places back in the next race. It's a bit harsh really. I didn't aim to ruin anyone's race. I've already lost everything. This makes me stronger. I can't wait for Magny-Cours."


He is so arogant and still doesn't admit he messed up. What a looser a$$ h.

 

That's why Kimi scored the fastest lap. If the car was so good, why didn't Kovalinen, who didn't have any problems at all (like the tanking system ruining Massas race) win?

The rule "If there's a red light and cars standing in front of it, you stop too" is silly?

There's a racing series where the process of entering pitlane - refuelling, changing tires - exit pitlane takes less than 30 seconds. It's called Formula 1.

"I'm so sorry officer, I approached that traffic light and looked at it and saw it was red and suddenly the cars in front of me stopped. How am I supposed to see the red light while driving?!" -> Anyone thinks that will work?


While it was an absolute rookie mistake, everyone in F1 makes mistakes. But there never has been anyone who was so arrogant afterwards. Even Schumacher, arguably most stubborn of them all, admitted when he was wrong. Great F1 drivers are not only great because of their speed and talent, which Hamilton has without doubt. They are also great because of their personality and the respect they earned. Hamilton just lost all of what was left of the latter.

 

As it appears Hamilton learned nothing from his accident, it is for certain that the penalty of 10 places was not enough to make an impression upon Lewis. Maybe he needs to lose points also.

 

Hamilton made a mistake in the heat of the moment, and find it difficult to accept it. That's a fact.

Maybe something escape me, but I don't recall Shumacher ever admitting to 'parking' his car in the middle of the Rascasse Corner at Monaco and spoiling his rivals' flying laps. He always pretended that the car skidded and came to a halt where he couldn't drive it further. Onboard data proved that he deliberatly stopped the car there and stalled it himself.
Also I don't recall Shumacher ever admitting taking Damon Hill out once he damaged his suspension in Melbourne either, thus winning his first title for Benetton.

 

Point taken! Nevertheless, those were rather planned maneuvers from his side (yes, that only makes them worse), not simple brain fades which can be admitted without consequences (and should be if you don't want to become ridiculous...)

The fact is that until his blunder, Hamilton was leading and seemed to dominate the field in the Canadian GP.
If he looses the championship once again, he may well ponder on that mistake like he certainly did last year when re-examining his costly exit from the Chinese GP.

Talented, yes, but also prone to mistakes.

This could be the point in the season we look to as the turning point if he doesn't win the WDC. He cost himself at least 8 points, and likely 10, at Canada and he gave himself a 10 position penalty for France.

Some people move on from a incident in their lives by well, moving on and getting on with their lives.
Hamilton seems to do so by talking and talking and talking. Also, he talks about letting his driving do the talking. He lets everyone know this by talking some more, to remind us that he will not talk and let his driving do the talking.

 

And the ironic thing was that he did not do this (IIRC) until well into the season last year...around about the pit incident with FA, as I recall. And the famous "go swivel".

Before that, he actually looked like a modest nice guy.

 

Am I crazy....or does this not remind one of Juan Pablo Montoya?
Inspirational driver part of the time, complete buffoon other times..maybe Hamilton will try his hand in Nascar some day too.

I have lost all respect for Lewis, all respect.

I am rooting for Kubica from now on....and also Alonso.....I think I have a better understanding of his issues with Hamilton last year now.

I personaly see the reason for this hate thing in two ways. First he is not American hes a Brit And the second......well i dont want to start a trouble so i will leave it Hate!, hate!, hate! I mean its not like anyone on here even knows his dad or have been F1 drivers themselves

What is more of a worry to me, is that the level of hate driven drivel, makes me question whether I want to be associated with such folk, just to be part of a Ferrari chat site in which I love F1 and Ferrari cars.

He is a young guy with a brillant future, and he is hated for showing what he is capable of, that being, just a plain and simple threat to Ferrari.. amazing

 

Bit to broad of a statement to say that, although yes it could appear that way right now.
There are alot of folk in the States on here that see LH for what he is, (sigh's with relief) damn good, alot rate him, but dont like his attitude or some just dont care.
However ,some will just jump on him whatever he does and it appears they always will..

Not sure, there maybe F1 drivers that post on here, wouldn't rule it out..sure dont think anyone knows his dad, but hell who knows..

Did you see him on TopGear? He can just barely control his arrogance, just. He thinks he is the bomb, the man, the next Senna, the next MS.
I never got that feeling listening to MS speak.
I think much of his success is Mclaren....if he was driving a BMW would he be blowing Kubica off the track? I tend to doubt it.
Last year at the USGP I bought my 7 year old a Lewis shirt, now I don't want him to wear it, I don't want him to idolize a man that won't admit his mistakes, that won't show humility when given the opportunity he has, show more grace, more presence.
He reminds me of a spoiled kid now.
Tiger Woods, his obvious comparator, is a man of style, grace and integrity, and someone worthy of admiration both on and off the field of play.
Perhaps Hamilton will grow into his success, but at this point I'll root for someone else.

I was with you until this line bud... Schumacher NEVER admitted when he was wrong. He clung to Rascasse being a "mistake" to the bitter end! The same with Damon Hill and Villeneuve, he'll deny it to the grave.

MS is a great driver - the best ever (IMO) but it's a pretty common trait amongst these drivers that they are never wrong. Hamilton is just fitting the mold as did MS, Senna and many others.

 

I don't think Hamilton is talking and talking and talking.

Remember, this is "the" hot driver in F1 right now, pretty much has been for the past 2 years now. I'll wager his phone (and that of his press folks) is absolutely ringing off the hook with a million calls.

And there is also a million journos with nothing to do that must justify their existence spinning what words he does say into 537 different flavors of story for mass consumption by F1 fans.
