I am looking to make reservations for a nice beach hotel in the Hamptons but I have not had luck searching online Can anyone recommend some nice water-front hotels in East Hampton, Southampton or Bridgehampton NY? Actually, I'll take any considerations but I prefer the south fork as it is, in my experience, much nicer than the north fork. Not to insult anyone in the north fork. Oh, I am also going to Cape Cod, any recommendations on the Cape would be helpful, but I might post in the NE section for that
I have not found anything too upscale out that way, believe it or not. Try this: http://www.duneresorts.com/ I have stayed at a few. I like the Hermitage
http://www.easthamptonpoint.com/ Cousin had her wedding here, was beautiful. They have rental suites available.
Nice? There are no nice hotels in the Hamptons. The trick is to find the MOTEL that is less of a ****-hole than the rest. Trust me on this as I have lived out there.
Not beachfront, but my wife and I have stayed at The PondView a couple of times the last few years, absolutely beautiful. You might want to check it out, its close to beaches http://www.thepondview.com/
Absolutely does not. My only real requirement is that it's beach front and somewhere out east in Suffolk where it's not excessively crowded...somewhere that feels like a get-away. Thanks everyone!!!
East Hampton Point is not Montauk and it's on Gardiner's Bay, not the ocean, but has a good restaurant, lots of cougars in the bar, great deck at sunset. Head to Montauk then. Gurney's is okay, right on the water, spa features, Old Montauk Highway, not too far from where Ralph's summer house and some of his cars are kept. Friends have stayed at Briny Breezes and go back every year. There are several other places right on the ocean but I don't know anything about them. Most look pretty basic. Get a reservation for dinner at Dave's in Montauk if you like seafood. John
EHP has a full service marina there, you probably could rent jet skis etc. Also, the surfing off of Montauk is considered pretty good. There's always a good crowd when the surf's up.
Got to love it. The only things that are usually nice out that way tend to be the huge inns that were once large homes. No large hotels out that way nor any real decent ones.
Being from Southampton, there are not many choices for hotels. Most people do the summer rental of houses. Very few motels at all in the hamptons. Gurney's could be good, but a bit away from the center of things. Nothing in Southampton on the water, but the Southampton Inn is about the only place thats decent. American Hotel in Sag Harbor would be nice, not waterfront, but great restaurant, and superb wine list (pricey). The quaint village is very close to the waterfront with the only place for yachts to speak of in the Hamptons. Believe it or not, the VFW accross from the water had an excellent chef, as is frequented by many of the celebs for lunch (only on nice days though, must sit outside as the inside is bleek) Hope this helps. If you need more info PM me Good luck PS be prepared for the traffic!!!!!
I'm familiar with the traffic and I will personally thank the civil engineers for building a single road with one lane in each direction going into the hottest summer vacation place in NY!!! Thanks
LOL! It worked fine up until about 20 years ago when all of the empty potato fields were converted into little housing subdivisions, greatly increasing the population potential out there! Even then, regular visitors could avoid most of the Rt 27 stop and go via the backroads, at least until someone (rumored to be Jerry della Femina's daughter) published the route in Dan's Paper. Now that route is almost as bad as Rt 27!
A little off topic, but, being from Southampton, and tired of the traffic and pretentious people, I decided to move to Prince Edward Isalnd Canada several years ago. P.E.I. is so much like the Hampton's was many years ago. Beautiful beaches, lots of open space, warmest salt waters north of Virginia Beach, friendly people, and formost, great roads for driving my Ferrari. I summer here to get away from the a**holes in the Hampton's. Just a recomnendation. You might want to consider this as an alternative. Great investment for real estate also. PS When driving, people here wave as they pass each other, not like in the Hampton's, where they wave with their middle finger!!!!!
Yea, what he said! I don't want to publicize this any more than what it already has been, so let's keep the following just between you and me, okay? Get a good map or use google maps of the south fork. The following is general only and isn't turn by turn. The general concept is that you stay on 27 until it backs up, usually around the big left turn by the Mercedes dealer in Southampton. So turn left on David White's Lane about 1/4 mile before the big turn and then to Seven Ponds. Then Lower Seven Ponds, Head of Pond, Scuttle Hole Road. Hop off at Butter Lane if you're going to Bridgehampton, or if you're going farther east, turn off of Butter Lane to Maple then Narrow Lane, Sagg Main Rd. to Narrow Lane East, Wainscott Harbor, Scotline Drive to Townline. By then you're up against the East Hampton Airport and have to get back on 27 but you're well out there past Poxabogue and it isn't too bad after that, except through EH village. On really bad days, you may want to get off 27 as early as where the road narrows down to two lanes just past Lobster Inn. There you turn right at the gas station, go to the end and then turn left, taking you unfortunately through Southampton village. At least you can wet your whistle at the Driver's Seat if you've had it with the traffic up to that point. It's still better than 27 if it is stop and go that far back. Go through the village. You need to get north of the highway now, so look for David White's Lane, cross the highway and pick up Seven Ponds as above. Just promise me that you won't post this all over the internet!
GEE thanks dude for giving out that info (sarcastic). Since I live near one of these shortcuts it has caused even the back roads to be a problem. We locals have been trying to keep these secrets from getting out. YOU tell one and they tell another, etc.. Now the back roads are as bad as 27. Sorry but tourists should just bite the bullet and deal with it. Leave the shortcuts to the locals who HAVE to get places, and are not "on vacation". Do you mind if I publish a shortcut for CT that goes right past your house LOL?
NOT cool...................................... as a side note this is probably wrong, you might get lost or confused so whomever should probably not chance it and or follow it.
