I am a Ferrari owner (430 & 599) and general car enthusiast. I'm going to be visiting NYC later this month. Can any of you suggest some interesting places for me to visit? Of course, I'm planning to visit the Ferrari dealership. But are there any classic car dealers in Manhattan that would be fun to visit? I'm mostly interested in cars from the 1950's through the 1980's. Also, is there a classic car museum in Manhattan? Anything else that a "car guy" should not miss in Manhattan?

    Thank you!

There are some cars in the Museum of Modern Art's (MoMA) collection, among them a Cisitalia and a '90s Ferrari F1, iirc.

Other than that, nothing public comes to mind, I'd love hear what's sub rosa.

NYC is a rather car-unfriendly place in many ways on many levels...

There's an aviation museum in Farmingdale, again iirc, if your interests run lateral.

Manhasset Concours is weekend after this, if that's when you're around.

Give Classic Coach in Elizabeth NJ a call.
Frank always has an amazing collection of cars around.
Perhaps he can be persuaded to let you see what's in his shop.

3 places immediately come to mind...

    1) There is the Classic Car Club down in Tribeca that has a nice space and events/gatherings of classic cars every so often. They are a members club, but I wouldn't hesitate to give them a call and/or check out their website to see if they have anything upcoming.

    2) Manhattan Motorcars is a Porsche/Lambo/Spyker/Rolls/Bentley/TVR/Lotus dealership in the city. They strike me as the type of place that can get their hands on something hard to get, but doubt they'll have anything vintage on the floor. They usually have a Porsche CGT in the window, which is always a treat to see. No Ferraris though.

    3) If you feel like making the trip up to Greenwich, Miller Motorcars usually has a great inventory of exotics to look at, nice guys as well. Chances are they'll have a Veyron in the lot, and possibly the new Aston DBS as well.

Sadly I don't know of much else, but am eager to hear what other people have to say. It's been said before and I'll say it again, NYC isn't a very car friendly place. I keep mine up in Connecticut.

    Yeah, what they said...

    - Ferrari Showroom (it's NOT a dealer) on 55th and Park should have a few interesting things. Of particular note, is the colour range on what appear to be A1GP nose cones

    - The Audi Forum is sure to have an R8. It's also on Park down near Grand Central

    - Manhattan Motorcars (ask for Matt in the Porsche showroom) if he has time, I'm sure he'll show you around

    - Classic Car Club is ok. They can be a bit terse. Call first.

    - If you wanna take a road trip, ABSOLUTELY hit up Classic Coach. They're got the best stuff around. Period.

    - I'd also take a trip out to LI to see the Koenisegg on the showroom floor at Universal Autosports - http://www.universalautosports.com/ (Great video intro on their site by a genius producer)

    - Hit the Porsche Design Boutique if you need a carbon fiber hammer-drill

    - And if you want to rent something cool, so you can meet the good men and women of the NYC Highway Patrol, get a car from Gotham: http://www.gothamdreamcars.com

Depending on when you're here you may be able to join in on a run. A member of this forum may be picking up a new F-car in a few weeks... Oh, and also, if you need some restaurant recommendations: http://www.teamspeed.com/forums/blogs/emilgh/17-welcome-new-york-city-restaurants.html

Enjoy! Post up pics from your trip if you find anything cool.

As Emil suggested, you can come and see me (Matthew) at Manhattan Motorcars. I am here from 10-7 on Friday and 10-5 on Saturday - shoot me an email and let me know if and about what time you might be stopping by and I will make some time for you and your family. [email protected]
