hi guys do you know how many of these cars were built? what is the value of a good car today? i'd like to see pics and specs of these cars to TKS
20 ( less than 30) GT5-S cars have made it into the USA vis either Amerisport or Stauffer Classics. The Amerisport cars are us legal EPA-DOT certified, the latter are considered "grey market cars". The value of these rare cars vary, but good quality example would be in the $75K-$85K range. Turn key cars without any storys or issues, basically stock drive train, emmissions intact would be in the $85K plus. I would not be suprised if one of these prestine vehicles are over $100K if one is available for sale. The last GT5-S (1989) white/red sold for I believe $75000.00 with non conforming emmissions equipment. other wise in show condition. Amerisport was the "manufacturer " on record for I believe late 1985-1989 . The company was granted the importing rights from DeTomaso factory. The vehicles came in thru Canada without engine or ZF-transaxles. Amerisport located both 351 engines and transmissions, tore down the engines, rebuilt them to a higher spec and had them EPA-DOT certified. Truely a great car, great story. Wayne
tks to all!! is the cleveland engine lesser than the windsor? is true that from factory in stock form the GT5 S was not so fast at all ? 250 hp range? what about the GTS cars? are they less sought after than the GT5 S cars???
The last manufactured GT5-S was recently sold at auction by Bonhams, for the price of CHF 155,074 ($150,000). It only had 747km registered. Amerisport was the "manufacturer " on record for I believe late 1985-1989 . The company was granted the importing rights from DeTomaso factory. My car has the Amerisport "Grand Sport Option" engine and amenities. Reportedly the horsepower is ~375. My engine was just re-built with new bearings, cam, roller rockers, valve springs and stainless valves. http://www.pixclix.com/Micro-Wave/Pantera/GT5S-9469-7.jpg I enjoy my car, although I wish I didn't have to meet emissions standards which would allow me to have a bit more radical engine. i am in Italy, looking for a good pantera for reasonable money i know these cars are VERY rare in US, i am tring to get a production numbers for all the GT5 S worldwide i heard from an euro owner its car was pretty slow in stock form and he had to change the engine for an other model (winsdor to cleveland or opposite or ....something like that) do you find it correct? do you know if there was more than one engine put in these cars by De Tomaso? (i know plenty were modded with bigger powerfull 7 liter ones aftermarket)
Emilio, why dont you look for an GT5 instead of an GT5S. I realy like them more with the Countach like fender flares. This one is fore sale in Denmark at 43K Euro. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Emilio Not including Aamerisport cars for the US there were just 82 GT5S cars manufactured between 1986 and 1990, of these 22 were right hand drive, so there are just 60 Euro LHD GT5S cars assuming all are still on the road. I do not understand how your friends car was slow, in standard form both windsor and cleveland engines made 350bhp, but there were three ratios available with the transmission, and this would affect performance, with the longest ratio reducing acceleration but increasing top speed. Panteras are truly great cars, there is ver little else that will give you such a thrill, the noise is spine tingling and they look fantastic. The GT5S will be the most expensive to buy along with the later Si. Here is my car, I have done a lot of work to improve it. Steve
A very wicked looking car. Emilio Try to find an earlier car with the 351C. The 351C engine has Ford race heritage. The Windsor, is more of a passenger car type of engine. Watch for rust, and check the ZF transaxle. Ciao Ralph
TKS you this is the info i was looking for i do not why that car was slow, with 350 hp, lot of torque and being not heavy it should be a pretty fast car imo! may be just a bad one at this point your car looks SUPERB!, please post more of it!!
351 is cleveland? sorry Ralf, i am not very familiar with big US V8.....but i love some of these italian-US cars GTS, GT5 and GT5S are wild looking cars, i love them
Emilio There are two 351 factory engines - 351 Cleveland and 351 Windsor. The 351 Cleveland has Ford race heritage. The engine is also known, as the 351C. The 351C engine is more powerful and desireable. ________________ Steve Nice looking car ! Cheers Ralph
The 351 Cleveland is a really cool engine. The valve size on the heads is probably 3 time's the diameter of the valves on a Diablo. The ports are super sized also. It was called the semi hemi at one time due the head design, originally a design for Nascar. There is more aftermarket parts (which are cheaper) for the windsor. The Boss Mustang had Cleveland heads. My car is a pushbutton, it's the LP400 version of the Pantera! Image Unavailable, Please Login
GT5-S (Chassis number: THPNDJ09402) For sale here: http://www.pim.net/611008GT5SNB.html $79,999.95 or best offer GT5 for sale here: http://www.pim.net/9172007GT5.html $69,995.95
tks very much i am looking for one in Europe at the moment, any help appreciated ( and no, the countach S1 will stay)
Emilio - just arrived today - my pre L, 1972. It needs a complete cosmetic re-do, but body looks to be straight and pretty rust free....mechanically tight and straight. Drives like a rocket ship!!! Feels faster quicker than my dd if that makes sense, just gets up and goes!!! The CT feels like a jet-airliner, definitely fast, but you don't notice it as much...I find the CT much more comfortable and roomier, my head hits the roof in the Pantera more than the CT..I am 6'1". I LOVE PANTERA's!!! The styling is just so fking cool!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
good they are nice cars, my favourites are the later cars: GTS GT5 and GT5S to the 90 pantera is nice to, but design is too busy imo (they are also so hard to find ) does this car has performance mods? what? the nice thing about a regular panters is that you can mod it without feeling bad about it and without costing a fortune i would go for a silver or red color, black bonnets and bottom and riveted wheel arch : GTS stile with some upgrade: it looks great and is "period correct" if you will ever look for an exhaust drop me a PM: ansa guys just built some gruppo 3 modified complete exhausts that are badass i am looking at a car next weeck
There were more than a hundred imported to the US (about 50 from Kirk Evans, and 50 from George Stauffer), with a total somewhere around 180 overall worldwide. I like them a lot. I especially like the wrinkled Maserati interior from when DeTomaso owned Maserati then.
Emilio, what model are you looking at and is it in Europe? Have you given any thought to buying a car in the US. There are some seriously good cars there, and with the current dollar weakness against the Euro currency it could make sense, but you will be liable for VAT. Still, I have just recently bought a second Pantera in California, it will be shipped over in the next month. As you asked here are a few more pics of my GT5S
hi Steve TKS first of all you have a very nice car what model have you bought oversea? a GTS and a GT5S in Europe, i will pm details to you if you are interested i did consider it , but adding 20-30% VAT -shipping, considered all the issues with papers, plates, transferts, ecc.... i am tring to find one already here also panteras look to be not so valued in the old continent and so the oversea deals are not super tempting IMO, what do you think? Emilio
Hey now dammit, you guys keep your hands off our Panteras over there--you get all the cool cars already without taking what we have!
A valid point there bud, the unfortunate thing is that once a US car leaves the country it can never be re-imported, I guess in the medium term it will help shore up values but I cannot understand how Panteras are so undervalued when they are so rare, especially when you look at muscle car values!!
