I just spent 5 weeks over there and personally loved the food, though admittedly we didnt dine out at high-class restaurants every night. The quality of the fast food is a lot better over there I found, especially Wendys. I fell in love with buffalo wings with a beer while watching some NBA or NHL on a big screen. Cant say I had many meals I didnt enjoy, although the serving portions were massive. Pizza is sensational, couple of bucks gets youre a HUGE slice and a coke and it tastes 10x better than the **** most places serve here. So overall I was a fan.
likewise, massively. although tara the pommy chick is sorely missed, she was a knockout have heard similar, its on the to do list
many times visited. lived for a while. Alot of the food makes me feel unhealthy, and my stomach needs adjusting when i go back. I like home cooked mid-western food. Texas steaks rule... New-Mexican food also kicks arse... Huevos Rancheros... best brekki ever... Not a sweets fan, but i dont mind some of the sour ones. Chocolate definately not, cadbury all the way. Most importantly, you cant make a good ice coffee! Haha...
I've been to Hawaii, and to New Orleans. This was while doing a round the world trip that included Canada (around March 2001). I found the food in New Orleans to be ok. It was a street just off Bourban Street. The entertainment was funky. My wife and I went into a strip joint that had both male and female strippers. I have to say, she got the better entertainment. Good for her! Hawaii was strange. I've never seen so many limo's. Seems about as common as a taxi. And the MacDonalds seem to serve pineapple with every dish. We were doing the whole "compare the price of a big mac" everywhere we went, just to try and get an idea of value for money. Overall, I'd say that I had a very narrow view of the US. It was OK I guess. I must admit, I much preferred Canada though. It could be because of the specific things we saw, so I wont judge an entire country on such a narrow view, but if I had to choose between Canada and the US to visit again, I'd take Canada.
We stayed overnight at the Inn at Morro Bay while on our honeymoon, lovely little place - did the drive from LA to Frisco - also fell in love with Carmel

Really? All the movies and sitcoms I see have skinny crappy looking sh*t pizzas - I love the pizzas here, hard to imagine any better than what I get!
I know what you're saying, but i did have 1 of the best meals in my life there (see below) AMEN Yup, had the best pasta of my life in little italy in NYC last year, it was to die for.
We stayed overnight at the Inn at Morro Bay while on our honeymoon, lovely little place - did the drive from LA to Frisco - also fell in love with Carmel
There's actually a few [but, still, to me, surprising number of] other F-Chatters who live in the region. The Inn is a wonderful hideaway, and Robert... your scallops... did you have 'em at Rose's Landing, Tiger's Folly or Flying Dutchman? Each location has been there a good 40-50 years, plus... My Pop taunts Jack LaLanne with those scallops, even as they compare their bellies... Did you stop in the ice cream/coffee place? Next to the place with the huge selection of gigantic, weathered chimes... Did either of you stop for a moment in Cayucos? Next town up from Morro Bay. Laaaaaid back and out of the "bay" - so, it's sunny, but, rarely hot. The world may melt away, but, the pounds don't. That's the one place on earth I can eat and never be full, sleep for 12 hours [I usually sleep 5 hrs.], and do it again... Between the 2 communities, probably spent a year there [mostly in Cayucos] on vacations; weekend getaways; golfing; hiking; one-night-standing; coldwater surf trips; keeping former Sensei in fighting trim; Deep Sea, Pier, Jetty, Shoreline, Cliff, Secret Spot fishing, crabbing, sharking; even a honeymoon or two... So, yeah... I'm very glad you two and yours found it to your liking.
its years ago, pal, but it was a old building, over looking the bay and down the road there was a seal circus/zoo,across from were they sold O'neill surf gear.great spot google "Queenscliff Victoria' it was just like that .a fishing port.
Went to a fine dining restaurant at the Coronado Hotel in San Diego in the mid 90's and ordered "sweet bread" thinking it was some type of bread. Didn't look like bread and tasted like sh*t. Spent all evening wondering what the fark I had eaten. Being very familiar with anatomy, the conclusion I came to was that in view of its shape and texture it had to be pancreas GROSS!!! I HATE OFFAL At the same restaurant, the waiter asked if I wanted coffee and I replied "Flat white please". The waiter gave me an anxious puzzled looked, went away and came back with the manager who asked what the problem was. My waiter was black. Guess something was lost in translation.......................
Had 2 memorable and enjoyable trips. The first was in 1970 on a magical mystery tour of the hippy trail. Needless to say, first stop was SF and straight to the Haight! Whilst the big momentum had been and gone by then, there was still plenty of free love to go around and my mate and I made sure we got our share of it. We even had enough energy left over to spend time playing frisbies in Golden Gate park. Stocked up on nice literary mementos by Ginsgerg, Leary, Whitman etc as well as some other interesting paraphernalia. What an era that was!! After SF we were scheduled to stop in NY but the stories we heard about it frightened the **** out of us so we didnt leave JFK airport and got the next available flight to Amsterdam where we rendezvoused with a couple of chicks, bought a combie van and worked and travelled around Europe for 3 years. Next trip was 1992 and on a much better travel budget. Spent quite a bit of time in California once again but this time mainly in LA. Most enjoyable stay was in San Diego what a great town! One night, a friend and I were celebrating in this club/restaurant where they had this superb jazz band playing. After drinking 2 bottles of Dom and late in the night we were leaving and heard this waitress call out to us. I thought wtf, Ive paid the bill, whats going on. Would you believe she came up and said sir, you dropped your wallet What a fantastic way to top off a great night to be reminded of the fact that there ARE still lots of good honest people out there. Gave her a huge hug, refrained from slipping her a big tonguey ( she was a really good sort ) and instead slipped her a few crispy $$ in appreciation. This time, being braver and wiser, spent some time in the big apple. Remember going to this club called Limelight that had previously been a church. Talk about an eye opener and fun fun fun!! The rest of the story has been censored.
