    Wow

Who would have thought that we'd be with so many GT4's here? We'd really be making an awesome lineup!

Glad I started this little thread :)

OK, look at Ed's car (Post #75). He has the EURO side marker lights, yet US bumpers with no side rubber. It's very obvious how they cut to make room for the US bumper.... Interesting!!! I wonder who did that conversion?

I love it that so many GT4 owners are coming out of the woodwork!!!

I think it was done when the color was changed from metallic brown to the current blue. It appears to be well done.

that is hands down the best US converted GT4 that I've seen yet. The lack of the black side covers help the look tremendously. I'd love to see more pictures of it!!!

As far as I know that is correct, all done when repaint was done. This was done by previous owner but was certaibly a factor in my decision to buy the car. I think it looks great.

    +1!!
I think the bumper mods, side lights and color are all excellent. I like those bumpers (USA without the side plates) better than the Euro bumpers.

Which mirrors are those on the car? Are those Vitaloni Californias? I'm thinking of getting a pair.

I've come across that too, on a GT4 registry. What can I say? 10138 is red with tan interior now. Was it always? I can't say. I was told that the previous owner had had the interior redone, and yes, the car has been painted - the result of some necessary body work. But I can find no indication anywhere that this car was anything other than red. I've poked and prodded at it's underbelly, doors, doorjambs, panels, roof, etc. If it was white, someone did a bang-up job covering it up!
Incidentally, would a black interior car have tan carpets? My car has tan, and they look like originals (read: worn).

Is it possible that 10138 used to belong to this guy:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/member.php?u=1338

IIRC, his car used to be white, and he repainted it red. I'm not sure what the interior was. I'm pretty sure he did a very intensive repaint. I seem to recall photos of it somewhere here, but can't find them right now.

    Well let's see,
"would a black interior have tan carpets?" I wouldn't think so but one thing is absolute; there were no absolutes on the assy. line at Ferrari in the late 70's and 80's. We've seen cars that are proven unmolested from the factory and yet they have a part, or configuration, that no other car has.
"no indication that this car was anything other than red." Thats a PLUS, it means it was a quality repaint. The next time you have the door panels off take a peek inside you might see a sign there.

Not the same machine. 10138 is a federalized Euro car. It still has the euro bumpers, but lacks the amber/white lenses in front (all amber now, booo). The side marker lights are rectangular, but not inset in the fenders as the US cars are.
Were serial numbers different for European cars?

We did have the door panels off when repairing the power windows (they work so much better when the lifting cables are actually on the intended pulleys!) and still saw no indication of white. Hence my skepticism.
I read the serial number from the steering column (and the title). Where else on the car can the serial number be found?

Serial numbers are located (US cars)
    1. steering column
    2. drivers door jamb
    3. square frame tube next to coolant tank (under RR corner of engine lid)

I also found a small sheet metal tag welded to the vertical frame tube above the rear anti-roll bar right side mount. I couldn't read the numbers but I would imagine that it was a "job #" for the frame.

Many interior panels/parts have a "job #" marked on their back side but it doesn't reflect the car's serial number. If you find 2 or more different "job #'s then the interior has been messed with at some time.

My factory certificate shows that my car was originally black/black but I haven't found any "shiney" black behind any door or interior panels which leads me to believe that the exterior color was not applied in hidden areas.

Nice post Dave! If we are going to turn this into a database, then my car was offically born in April 1974, SN#08140, engine #48.
My Heritage Certificate does not give me the exact day, just 4/74.

Also, one guy who has not shown his head yet is SKIPGT4, Michigan USA.(Where are ya SKIP!) His car is #08180, engine #68 for the record. One of these days he'll finish the restoration. :)
