Finally arrived in the mail last week and hopefully I'll be getting started on it in about another week. They designed the kit so you can build the USA, GB, or the Brazilian GP's but even so there's a few missing details on the kit. The biggest one that is annoying me is the lack of some vents around the exhaust that was present in all three of those GP's as well as the Monaco GP which is the one I'm going to try and build the kit to. I'll keep you guys posted on how it goes until it's done.

The model is only good for the first 3 early races of the season, no matter what the box says.
Its not a bad curbside model for those races. The early races have no lower exhaust vents. They also didnt have the
airbox extensions. I got mine from Ebay England.

In this kit on the bottom of this car it says there is a strip of wood  Does anyone know why? I have never seen the bottom of an F2007 but surely there is no wood there. Is there?

Yes there is. Actually there used to be I think, as I believe that since the beginning of this season they use different material.

It is the FIA plank. I cannot find it on Formula1.com yet but here is an excerpt from Wikipedia.

"A 10mm[citation needed] thick wooden plank or skidblock runs down the middle of the car to prevent the cars from running low enough to contact the track surface; this skidblock is measured before and after a race. Should the plank be less than 9mm thick after the race, the car is disqualified."

There are some good pictures online but unfortunately when you need one you can't find it... This isn't my picture it is used from Flickr.com

Thanks, I could not see wood as being a component on one of these cars but now i understand.

wolfman, i have just looked at the tameo kits i cant imagine the mess i would probably make of one of those. I am just finishing off an enzo before i do this its the first model car i have ever built.

    Enzo Rob,

Like anything else in life, if you’re a beginner, start with simple kits and work yourself up. I have been building models for over 30 years, so to me a Tameo kit is simple.
Take a look at my thread “wolfmans AMR/LePhoenix and Paddock models”.
All these models have been built over the years. Some of them are pretty rare by now.

I have seen the thread they are very nice! The enzo i have just built is a tamiya 1/24 and it was relatively straight forward. It nearly went flying out the window a couple of times when i had to add carbon fibre but i ended up removing most of it and it looks better now.

    Thanks for the info.

I want to know how he manages to control the overspray...from what I can see he is shooting in the direction of the workbench!

I have built two of the revell kits... they are ok, but do require some "fettling" to make them look good. I do like the stock bodywork, it does look good.

the suspension is difficult and not very sturdy... so take care. I have one model that is built, but can be taken apart into its various pieces... which is pretty cool ... I also added wiring harness, hoses etc... I have it sealed in a large lucite case, so when I get it out I'll take pictures... for publication...

I finally got started on this one yesterday and am very disappointed with the way the suspension is molded and how the wheels fit on them. There is an absolutely horrible gap that has the carbon fiber brake drum cover sticking out the inside of the wheel by at least a few mm's when it should be perfectly flush to the edge of the wheel. It's the same on the front and the back suspension pieces so I'm just debating whether I want to go crazy and start work on scratch building the drums to fit the tires on correctly.

The engine is pretty simple and I don't plan on adding any detail to it whatsoever since it will never be seen which makes me long for Tamiya to get back into the F1 car kits.

You can open the hood by yourself, just need a little work to cut...but I admit the operation can be risky.

where did you get the tabacco decals by the way please?

The engine cover can be opened but, IMO there's not enough initial engine detail to warrant taking the risk of messing up the body.

I found the tobacco decals on Ebay for around 10usd had to be shipped from either Japan or China don't remember which one.

I wish Revell would have paid more attention to the the way the wheels go on the car....right side is stock kit left side is after I've done some modification.

But if the wheels were mounted like you modified them to be, wouldn't that make them impossible to turn left and right. They can not be mounted all the way in or they would hit the "wishbones" every time Kimi takes a turn.

This is true, but I don't feel like redoing the suspension arms as well, my main complaint is the drums aren't supposed to stick out like that after the wheels are mounted.

Edit: Here's the comparison to the actual car vs. the model.

I am currently building the Revell F2005.
IMO it's the same problem with most Revell F1-Kits: The front and rear track is too wide.
Once the front-wing is mounted you can see that the weels are too far outside. So this modification must be done.

The F2005 has no brakecovers at all, so I had to build them scratch. My wheels are steering, but it's not working smooth so the wheels are not parallel. Every time I put the car back on the shelf, I have to correct position of wheels or it looks like a dnf....

I'm looking forward for your building process.

    regards, Till.

OOOps.....Revell F2005 of course has covered brakes - I'm currently building F2003GA which has not.
    Any progress with F2007?
