I have an opinion I would like to share with others. It seems to me that many FCA members enjoy social events, where nice drives take place on roads like mountains, perhaps have a golf event, a small concourse, and lots of socializing...nice dinners, nice wine, nice friendships. I think these type of events have worked well in our region and we should continue to have them. I applaud Juan Manuel Fantango for supporting this concept though he himself leans towards the fast lane on the race track. Let's do both; they are fun, and let's keep making Ferrari friends. Life is too short and we shouldn't let it pass us by. Feel free to chime in here, thanks.

    Coach,

I am with you and David on this. Actually I like both social as well as track events. The whole club concept is best when there is something different for everyone. Getting together for socials can be a simple affair w/o much effort involved. Events such as the Ferrari Cup Challenge require a lot of planning, work and a financial obligation to secure the venues. Track events are also labor and $$ intensive. Socials kind of fill the gaps between these types of big affairs. So with a combination of all of the above there will be better chances to bring out more people and cars. Meeting new friends and getting together with old ones are part of what makes all events worthwhile. Social interaction is the fabric that binds us Ferraristi.

    Coach,

You guys are the best and have some of the most beautiful roads to enjoy. I agree that a mix of social and track is the ultimate recipe for a great weekend as we enjoyed last November when David organized a Hilton Head get together. Hope we can arrange to make the weekend again this year. We've made many new friends in the Carolinas. You guys do a great job organizing events for your members. Hope I can get to a Highland happy hour sometime myself.

    Coach I,

I couldn't agree more. This part of the world offers some of the best roadways on earth. I'm really looking forward the weekend at J Salmon's house.

Its definately cool how in the Ferrari group there are those that appreciate the older cars, rather than just the lastest/greatest like most people my age. I'm very much for the little car meets, mountain drives, etc, very fun.

I'd love to participate in some drives but appear to be in a "forgotten" corner of SC, in Beaufort. The Porsche club of which I used to be a member is fairly active down here but I seldom see another F car. Don't mind driving up to the mountains once in awhile but it's a four-hour hike just to get there from here. Any Savannah-Hilton Head-Beaufort-Charleston F-car owners that might want to do a drive sometime? I'm completely open to other ideas too. Guess I'm envious of the upstate SC, Charlotte and Triangle folks!

I would be up for more "local" events. I NEED to drive the 308...just blew a coolant hose and I think it's because I have only driven 200 miles in 7 months (only 600 in the 23 months before that). I KNOW!!! 800 miles in 2 1/2 years is BAD!!!

Driving to Greenville would be great for the car...but the 3+ hour drive each way would be bad for me. I have a 3 year old and a wife I love spending time with and my job keeps me away enough as it is. I can't bring the whole family up the Greenville, and staying overnight would mean even more time away from home. BUT, more local stuff would be great. Columbia is not too far...I would have come to the event this weekend but we were on vacation...and I have a blown coolant line. That'll teach me!

I too am envious of the other areas...but it's my own doing -- for good reasons of course.

why not make it a family affair, bring wife and baby, have fun driving your car for 3+ hours...enjoy meeting all the great guys who come to these events; the driving experience in the mountains is unbique...heck, the guys from naples florida come all the way up for a unique driving and social experience...just a suggestion of course

Already thought of this. I like Greenville, especially Thursday nights downtown. BUT, with a 308, I can only fit one of the two young ladies I need to bring. So, my wife would need to drive separately -- NOT A CHANCE!!!! She will NEVER drive herself that far...believe me, I have tried. I suggested we get a Mondial t cab...she said ok if I sell the 308 and that's NOT going to happen...see the dilema?

One day, I will make it up there. I would love to meet you guys and hang out. Maybe a couple day golf tourny thing??

I'm in Charleston and would jump at the chance for some kind of drive / get-together. Summer months are a bit tough as the old Dino has no A/C, but as long as I have a cooler full of water I should be okay.

That ride to Edisto was fun.

Friday morning I was going to go to Folly Beach as my in-laws rented a house on the Beach. I was there from last Saturday to Wed, went to work Thurs and decided I wanted one more day off. About 10 miles from home I blew a coolant hose. So, five hours later, I made it to the beach in my 1980 Jeep. 308 is at Karl's so hopefully I will get it back soon ... I sure hope he is gentle -- and hopefully nothing else is wrong :(

Good luck with that. As long as you were able to shut it off right away, I'm sure it's fine. Shoot me a PM when you get your car back and maybe we can make another Edisto run. Karl has rebuilt my suspension since the last time and the car handles much better now.

Will do...I shut it down about one minute after I started seeing coolant come out the deck. Had a lot more coolant left in the system...then it all came out. My concern is that other hoses are in bad shape. Anyway, I'll get up with you when I get her back so we can take a ride. I haven't seen Charles since the dinner at the Italian restaurant...he's been busy, but maybe we could all get out again.

If I were you, I would definitely have all the hoses replaced, if only for peace of mind. I got a complete set of Kevlar-reinforced hoses from Superformance in the UK a couple of years ago and had Karl install them.

We should definitely try to get Charles to come along. I know some other Italian car guys here in town who might be interested. We have a small group that gets together for dinner once a month. Mostly Alfa guys.

    cheers,
