Hi Roger, Burr walnut Victorian is well made and high polish(wood as used in Rollers) but is not popular these days and is cheap to buy,IMO big deal now is the pre WW1 cherry wood Swedish furniture, its bright clean and would suit QLD,those chairs are that style or try this link www.virtanen-antiques.com

    Bakelite-Catalin...

Catalin Corp. acquired "Bakelite" after patent expired in '27, manufactured and distributed as "Catalin" thereafter and added colours by '29.

But, your wonderful wares [that doesn't sound right] do have a "Marblette" appearance about them.

In any case, all were invented and patented by the same man, and in any form, are called... "Bakelite"...

First meal i had when i got to seattle back in 2000 was at maccas.... ordered a supersized meal, just cos it was a novelty...

went to a steak house in Reno, had the ribs, didnt finish it, was about 1.5kg of meat on there... was actually really tastey though.

Go to Las Vegas if you think that's bad. I have never seen so many 250 kg + people in one place.

My first trip to the states:-

Quote "Animals and Children never lie."

Travelling through Beverly Hills where the movie stars live, my kids were wondering what all the fuss was about, because the houses in our street were bigger.

Travelling along the LA freeways, my kids made the comment that we got more traffic on the way to school through Kew in the morning. (maybe we were lucky)

My son wanted to see an Enzo.
He persuaded me to take him to Ferrari in LA.
Surely there would be an Enzo there. hmm nope.

Wife went shopping in Rodeo Drive and 5th Avenue. OK but not all that it is cracked up to be. Aussie shops not that far behind.

Did i see any exotics on the street in LA and NY (manhattan) hmm nope.

We paid US$120 for a cab fare to go to a recommended 5* rated Mexican Restaurant in LA, and paid $30 for a poor quality meal in poor quality surrounds.

We decided that Japanese food was the safest and healthiest bet.

Went to a flash restauarant in Manhattan- My Pasta Marinara must have been cooked by a 5 year old ..until now the worst Marinara ever..got a better quality meal in Carlton.

We would walk into restaurants in NY and walk out without ordering, just by witnessing what the other patrons were eating.

BTW we are not fussy eaters by any means.

Maybe we went to the USA with ultra high expectations.

    Flew NY to London..
Cab Driver said..Aussies? You look relieved to be here.
You must have flown in from the States!

London Full of Exotics, Full of Class, Great Pubs, Great Pub Food, Great Restaurants.

Dean, I'm with you on how good London is as a tourist, but NYC has loads of great restaurants. You were unlucky.

No exotics there though - they all live in the 'burbs.

I must say that the yanks are lovely friendly people.

I think we set our expectations too high.

After all USA is just a bigger version of Australia where Bogans are replaced with rednecks.

The food serving sizes are HUGE and the quality generally very poor in comparison to here.
Hollywood remains the only place that I have ever been to with an armed guard on the door of a McDonalds.

I liked Disneyland because I felt "so slim"

they actually encourage people to be fat by supplying electric carts at the front gate !!

they should be making these fat bastards walk to save their lives

saw armed guards at the fast food joints in south-east LA, you know you are in the wrong neighbourhood when that happens
