(Race lasted 203 laps due to cautions, Junior ran out of gas before he could make it back to pit lane. Most races, if not all, are won on fuel strategy, or a fuel gamble, even F1. Today reminded me of the incoherant comments made by some about Danica Patrick winning on fuel economy. Today Junior won the same way, shutting off his engine and coasting during caution period. There is nothing wrong with winning on fuel ecomony. That's why even F1 pit stops time the fuel flow, its all about fuel strategy/economy. Without accounting for fuel use, doesn't matter how fast a driver is if he runs out of gas before the finish)

Nice to see Jr pick up that win. What's it been, 2 years now?

A good point, a win is a win, but Junior has won many times besides this. Not so much with Danica.

Any idea what Brian Vickers was complaining about in the post race interview?

He said he two laps from the end, he passed Dale Jr, and was 7 seconds ahead, then NASCAR told him to let Dale Jr back around or Vickers would get black flagged. So I rewound a few laps and couldnt figure it out. Then I got a life and went outside to work on the boat.

But "wait" you say, "I thought you got a life?"

Well the batteries are dead in the boat again, so I got it on the charger (again) and I'll wait until the sun is a little lower.

passed on the inside on a restart? that's all I can think of w/o getting into conspiracy theories.

Vickers and Allmindinger have been on a roll lately...good to see. Hornish also had a decent day up until his spin with 5 or 10 to go.

Junior hasn't won in something like 70 races, but that means nothing in NASCAR. He's been inthe sport for about 7 years, had the best as his mentor. GIve Danica some time, I think she will do just fine.

As for Vickers complaining, guess we'll have to watch Windtunnel to find out.

Sadly, Sr. didn't get to finish the job he started. Jr hadn't won since Michigan 06 if you don't count the bud shootout this year, but DEI was not doing well in general back then. Hardly his fault. He's been racking up points and is in a good position for the chase.

I think Danica is about as good as she's going to get. She's been around 3 years already and is with a top team. Her win was fortunate, she didn't exactly blitz the field with outright speed. She's a contender for an occasional race win, I think, but I doubt she'll ever contend for a championship.

Remember Jr. is the highest Hendrick car in points and the most consistant of the 4 Hendrick drivers (#24 and #48 included) in the first 15 races..

I'm not really a nascar fan, but our little town has been packed with race-bus traffic for 2 days now, every store on the main drag has it's parking lot filled with buses and motorhomes stocking up on beer, the hard stuff, and ice....heading to the race. Seeing all the enthusiasm and driver alliegances plastered on vehicles makes me want to go to one of these races...just to see what all the hoopla is about. I live only about 40 minutes drive from Mich. Int'l Speedway....and I know all the backroads...so I can avoid the 100,000 plus traffic on the 2-lane highway of US-12. Many of my friends work the gates and concessions for the Nascar races and say it's a lot of fun. At an Indy-car event my friend John had a nice talk with Danica (making her wait for a secruity check) and said she was very polite and decent. He also said she rode up on a moped wearing the smallest, tightest shorts he'd ever seen (...oh yeah...too bad...that had to be rough). Sorry to run off on a tangent to this thread. I'm glad Dale Jr. won. It can't be easy to live in the shadow of his father. If he does good it's expected, and if he does bad he screwed up. I really feel for him....and hope him all success in his endeavors.

The incoherance came when you thought there was a comparison of the drivers, there isn't. The only comparison was the time that passes before a win and that races are in fact won with fuel economy being a major component.

I have no dispute over winning races by fuel economy as a part of a drivers win resume, but to toot a drivers horn that has won nothing but a single race based on fuel mileage is a reach and not comparable which you indirectly alluded to.
