One long time Ferrari owner who mostly drove V12s (the Boxer experience left something to be desired) was able to order a new 599. However he was disappointed with the as he called it 'paddle shifting' car once he spent some time with it. He got his old 575 back and dumped the 599. He has owned a number of Daytona coupe and Spyder cars and feels a proper Ferrari should have a V12 and a manual transmission. As he observed if you are not going 200 MPH then the manual shift 575 is in his experience a much more enjoyable ride than the 599 was...only half kidding. It was not a question of dollars since the owner still has several other older 70's Ferrari V12s all manual shift.
Any 599 owners here who kept their manual shift 550 or 575 to?

I've had my Barchetta for a couple of months now...........and have put more miles on it then my F1 430 Spider. For now anyways, I just feel the manual tranny is more enjoyable. Feels like I am more connected to the car...........and oh that 12!!! :) And I am by no means a "manual" only guy.......I also have a CS. Your friend is on to something.

Kuzi your topless V12 Barchetta with a manual sounds like the perfect combination! Your nice weather certainly makes up for the top on the Barchetta as you never need to put the top up.
My friend had a 550 and later when he ordered his first 575 it had to be a manual after the time he spent with the 550. He also ordered his second 575 with the manual even though F1 was by then available. As he said you really feel like you are driving the car with a manual shifter.

I agree man. Haven't driven a new F1 transmission, but I know that "snicks" and "clinks" produce more of an experience than almost anything else. THAT is the passion.

I'm taking the 550 for a little trip to the Belle Machina in Pocono, PA this weekend. Can't wait to "row the gears!" :)

The F1 can be fun also. I prefer the F1 at times and the stick at others.

The sound and feel of the Daytona at full howl is hard to beat though. Snickity snick into third and accelerate again. LOL Oh life is good!!

My 550's gear box in a 430 Scuderia wouldn't make sense, and likewise the other way around. I think the paddle thing is great for modern, fast sports cars. My 550 is a GT and so is the 599. I can understand why someone would go back to manual gears. I, for one, really enjoy the gear shift on my 550. The clunkiness is part of the charm.
