This may be a pointless poll but I'd like to know how we 308/328's all compare on this. So humor me. Just time your window speed up/down on each side and let's see what the average is. Indicate if you've refurbished/replaced you motors/system too.

    Me first:

I took apart and de-greased both sides, replaced the glass channel felts and replaced all the pulleys with ball bearing (window screen) units. I also fabricated my own motor grounding "accelorators". All times times are approximate in sec., engine off, 5 sec rest period between ups-downs.

    Driver side: (up/down) - 1st try 8/6; 3rd and beyond 5.5/3.5 or slightly lower

Passenger side: 1st try 12+/7; 2nd and beyond 7/6 or slightly lower

They got quicker the more I ran them (???) - at least up to about 8 up-down cycles. First time (up) was the worst.

You are such a show off ;)

Mine won't even go up completely unless I employ window fingers.

With the engine running (higher voltage= faster speed) both are 6-7 sec up or down. I have cleaned and lubed both sides though. (85' 308)

Mike, define "window fingers": with or without latex gloves on?

Don't beat yourself up either. You have not done anything to yours yet, have you?

I'm actually disappointed my windows don't go up even faster! I expected about the same time (less a second or two) as the down times.

Try hooking up a car battery direct to the door motor.....then you'll know speed.

Has anyone of you sprung for the (eBay) HD motors? If so, how much better do they seem to work??

both sides remarkably similar, with just battery power no engine, 7-8 secs up 4 secs down

nothing has ever been done to these windows other than it being used as a daily driver for the last 2 years

There is a variable that has not been mentioned and I believe has an effect on window speeds. Have you replaced your fuse blocks? I have Birdman fuse blocks. As far as I know no work has ever been done on the windows. I also agree that it would be faster with engine on, but I performed the test as requested. 4 seconds down 5 seconds up. seems quite acceptable to me.

Your up/down times seem very good! My fuse block was changed by the PO in 2005, but with a factory stock (same) unit.

My times were with engine off.

I dis-assembled/de-greased/cleaned/re-lubed and re-assembled mine this spring.....I have times around 5-6 seconds for both windows now. Compared to about 20+ seconds before, I am VERY pleased with Verell's procedures and a few pics/drawings that probably have been well-circulated here by now. I replaced most of the pulleys in the doors with metal ones with ball-bearing axles - that helped a lot!

I bet your hands are still recovering from that task. I'm fixing a door lock and release linkage items right now, and that is one tight place to work. Hope I don't have to do what you describe anytime soon!

2.6 seconds up almost sounds dangerous. I mean anybody that doesn't know 308s would be fine but poor Impactco would probably lose his "Window Fingers" because he would not be prepared to get them out of the way fast enough.

a combination of Birdman's fuseblocks and reseating the connections improved mine from 4 hours to 7 seconds, directly connected to a battery the ymove very quickly, like 2-3 seconds quicker but I'm pay to see them go up on the same day :)

I also noted that the center 'axle' of the motor/spool assembly can become rusted and bind to the round plastic cover, slowing the rotation of the cable spool. There is 'supposed' to be a vinyl curtain that shrouds the motor and door speaker from water drainage that leaks down the window glass. If that curtain is missing, and your car has seen frequent washings/rain in its lifetime, your axles may need some Dremel wire-wheel work before they'll spin freely.

I purchased the HD motors - made no noticable difference. Subsequenly, over the years I've regreased the gears, replaced the cables, installed new window switches and Birdman's fuse box, ran new ground wires, and lubed the channels and pulleys. All I can say is that the windows go up and down. Does anyone have the name of a supplier and part# for the channel inserts? That the next step.

1978 308 GTS. 6 seconds for drivers side, 7 to 8 seconds for passenger side. I think they are original and have gotten much better since aquiring and using the car frequently.

I put the windows down in the spring (also remove top) then up in the fall (when replacing top) leaving about 2 inches space on the drivers side and and one inch on the passengers side no matter how cold it is.

    Done.

Never cared how slow they are.

If you mean the felt rubber "run channel" liners, you bet. PM me Paul. I'll have the details for you back in my office tomorrow. Or search out one of my old posts, back in Oct/Nov/Dec 07 I think.
