And it wont hurt to have some extra hands either. :D

BTW Rizzo, Check out the way we have the straps. And if you have one of those (i think it's called a cherry picker?) it will help with tilting.

    Good luck Roo. :)

Cherry picker is the engine hoist / crane. The other device is an engine tilt (or leveler, depending on the mfr). Pizzaman, where did you get that leveler? I like that design better than the long screw-type.

That's an "Otc 1805 Load Rotor Sling. SKU - 63396. List Price: $549.24 ". You can sometimes find them for around $430.

It belongs to the pro ferrari tech who was helping us.

Altho pricey, It's hands-down the best tool I've ever used to tilt a 308 engine for removal. Have had an eBAY search running for almost a year w/o finding one.

Pizzaman asked how much a 308 engine weighs.

One answer was 340 Kg....which is about 750 lbs

    Another answer was 550 lbs

Can anyone corroborate one of these weights.....with xmission and a belly full of oil +/- a few lbs?

    Thanks,

    Rjay

I was curious. Doing a rebuild. Had the parts all nicely cleaned and a nice bathroom scale available. There are many data points, so the final number could be significantly off if there's error in all the points. Also, this does not include Freon, nuts, bolts, washers, gaskets, distrib cap, rotor, plug wires, plugs, and gear & motor oil. Also, I don't see the rear header on my list. I'd figure 15# for the R-header and 50# for the misc fluids and hardware so my guess for the number of jelly beans in the jar is 671 Lbs.
