I am moving mid-August from TX to PA for a 2 year work assignment. Movers wanted $4 grand for full service so I decided to just get a friend of mine to help me U-Haul it.

All my junk will fit in one of their 17' U-Haul trucks, and I am bringing my SUV too..... PROBLEM is that their car transporter trailers can only support 3900lbs and my rig weighs 4900lbs.

Any other way I can tow it without have to drive them both? Is there another company that rents car transporters one-way with a higher weight rating? Please remember I'd like to do this for as little money as possible.

Is the 4900 curb wt or GVW?

    What's the difference?

On the U-Haul website, it just gives me an error that the trailer will not support the weight of my vehicle and the people that work in their branches aren't allowed to rent it to me for that reason.

I'm thinking I just might be SOL and I'll have to drive 23 hours by myself in the car following my friend in the big u-haul truck. No fun.

Call Penske and don't look back. We've found them to be consistenly 30% cheaper than UHaul and the trucks have always been new or under 30k miles.

Avoid U-Haul like the plague. I used them twice and always had problems, one for a local move and another from Boston to DC.
    Just my 2 cents.

I went on their site, I didn't see any small flatbed trailers... only big ones for 18-wheelers.

Thanks, I'm checking into them now.

    Thanks a ton!

I just called Penske and made a reservation, they were MUCH cheaper than u-haul.

Still no luck with my tow though, same problem, my SUV is too heavy/wide to fit on the car transporter, so I guess I'm stuck driving it out also.

Bethlehem. Just outside of Lehigh University. :)

U-Haul also has a horrible track record for unsafe vehicles and trailers. Whichever one you get, slide under it and have a tug on the important stuff!

Your decision is already made, but why don't you pack your SUV, and if you have more stuff, get a U-haul (Insert any other company) trailer (assuming you have a tow kit)

No tow kit, and I have way too much stuff to pull in a trailer, I needed the 17' truck.
