I believe all the answers you want are location sensitve, meaning that the state laws will control. Try going to Findlaw . com and see if you can locate your state statute controlling child restraint.

You are fine as long as the car either has a passenger airbag cut off switch or no airbag at all. Moving from a baby seat to booster seat, to no car seat at all depends all on height and weight. My son is 3 1/2 and is just about ready to move to a booster seat.

My son rides leagally in the 355.

It's as far back as the seat will go.

Ours states that only rear-facing child seats be in the back.

For a child that small though you should consider having a key wired to the airbag to disable it.

Keep in mind that the big airbag scare is with rear facing seats that are inthe way of the airbag or baby seats that are bulky and essentially put the child in front of the airbag. If you put a rear facing infant in a baby seat in a 355, it would probably catapult them through the rear glass. But a child that is properly restrained in a booster seat (as in the picture shown) is not going to intrude into or be impacted by the airbag any more than a normal sized adult.

Its really sad that although airbags would save many more children's lives than they take, even a very small # of deaths is enough to make the manufacturers warn against them.

We have gotten this idea that it is safer to have no airbag with children; the biggest thing that really protects is the companies from the inevitable lawsuits.

    Think about it:

Suppose you have 100 accidents severe enough that they would kill a child...

95 lives saved in children due to airbags: no suits and no thanks (except suits for broken fingers etc)

5 lives lost to airbags: 5 lawsuits.

    or:

100 child lives lost in cars without airbags: no lawsuits against the airbag manufacturers.
