Working on my new company website and looking for some feedback. www.phantomplaneteffects.com

Not finished but I thought this would be a good time to test for bugs. So if anyone has a chance to look around (especially see if the demo reel plays on your browser) it would be appreciated.

Also theres nothing for sale there so this isnt soliciting anything.

    gracias !

Too tall - make the header 1" or less and make the pic of the demon smaller. You can fit all that on one screen or less without the need for scrolling.

The pic of the demon looks like a scan with fingerprints. Needs retouching.

Ideally, your skull+corona logo should be a simpler graphic image done in a vector-based file (Illustrator) so that you can easily print it in b/w or any color combination. 99% of world-class logos are done that way. I'm bring frank but that PShop-jobbed logo looks poorly pieced together.

Your header fonts have different italic angles. Use a skew tool or something to make the vertical lines match.

Fade those stars on the sides. Makes the site look 10 years older.

Contact info should be at the bottom visible in the footer at all times.

Bio - maybe a pic of you and a monster? No necessary though.

Demo reel is great but needs a warning of nudity and gore.

TM issues: your logo looks like the Gears of War icon. Just a heads-up.

No comments on the site per say, but it's cool you were involved with the Ed Wood movie. It's one of my faves.

Now thats what Im talking about Ryan !

Its hard to get constructive criticism.

Do you think theres an issue with 'Phantom Planet' ? When I formed the LLC almost a year ago my attorney said I was fine as we're two totally different industries.

You're also the first person to say they had to scroll to see the entire page...I have to figure that out... web design not my strongest point !

Well, I was a designer before and during law school, now doing IP law so this is up my alley so to speak.

It's a tossup on the Phantom Planet issue as they're music rather than film/tv effects, but they are registered in entertainment services (although for consumer-oriented goods rather than your B2B service). The mark is live and recent, obviously googling the band name brings up pages of their hits. Is it confusing to consumers? Perhaps not. But it's still higher risk than something unregistered or not in use. Obviously someone saying, "what if your company was 'Foo Fighters SFX?'" raises the issues at play though.

home/newsblog/links - have a similar template (not going to dive into the markup), anything else "jumps" to the side when clicking on it.

Personally, I don't like the home link but it works for this site. However, do make sure your phantom planet main graphic in the top left goes back to the home.

Links - is this necessary? Or is there a different way you can approach this? Perhaps a small icon for it somewhere else?

Also, not a big deal because of the background, but the red border line is just shy of reaching the top and reaching the bottom on the left and right columns.

Took a swing at it really quick.. lengthened the background so it wouldn't repeat as much and gave the header a little more pizazz..

Just a recommendation- pay close attention to your title tags as they do factor into your ranking. Ideally you should sprinkle bits of the stuff in your meta tags onto every page title tag (I can't think of a better way to explain that; just make sure the title tags are all different and relevant to the content on the page).

Good to see that the Mod's have not whacked this thread for reasons I have been given for doing the similar :)

    You guys are amazing.

I really appreciate all the constructive criticism. Its exactly what i was looking for. Im not a web designer at all and while I probably should have hired someone I figured Id give it a shot myself first (cuz Im a cheap biatch).

Im going to implement a lot of these suggestions over the next few weeks and then show you all again.

Peter... I do think this is a different scenario.

Yes and no. I am glad that you have the opportunity to share your site. I was tongue and cheek with my comment, as I know there is a fairly fine line the Mod's have to balance. For some reason, I push that line once in a while, but understand their position if a thread gets the 'ol Whack-ola...It's all good:)
