I strongly agree - as much as I dislike the Continental GT/GTC/Flying Spur, I love the Arnage. It's amazing how that now-ten-year-old design still looks so strong. By the way, that car you saw later received a parking ticket when parked near Larimer Square. In addition to that Arnage, I saw the same gold Ferrari 612 Scaglietti at the Ritz yesterday that I had seen at Elway's earlier in the day. Both of those sightings came at around 8pm. Sightings today - most of which are heinous examples of cheating because they were nearly all Concours-related - included: - a black Dodge Viper SRT-10 in the Concours parking lot. - a black Lotus Esprit in the Concours parking lot. - an extremely rare Lamborghini Gallardo Nera parked outside Concours. It's one of 185 manufactured. - my first-ever sighting of a Maserati Merak, heading west on Hampden at Downing at around 11am. Collector plates. - my first-ever sighting of a Ferrari 400, this one a convertible conversion, on Colorado and Hampden at about 1pm. - my second-ever sighting of a Ferrari 400 in the Concours parking lot around 3:45pm. Garfield County plates circa 1997 on this car. - a black Ferrari 308 GTS at a gas station on Downing and Alameda around 4pm. Oddly the car didn't have shields but the driver's wife was following in a white Range Rover which did have Ferrari shields. I don't remember seeing this car at Concours - was it? - a double sighting of a red Ferrari F355 Berlinetta and Testarossa on Santa Fe approaching Belleview... admittedly this one doesn't count because I specifically followed them out hoping for this photo. - of course, best of all, a Ferrari 275 GTB 2-cam on Collector Vehicle license plate 275GTB2 in the Concours parking lot. Gotta love Concours day in Denver!
That's a re-bodied Pontiac Fiero. I was in my silver 308 a couple weeks ago when I saw that car in the used lot. Had to pull in and check it out. The guy who works there, who is evidently from the Middle East, was VERY interested in my Ferrari. He admitted right away that it's not a real Ferrari. It's a better rebody than some I've seen, but up close, it's obvious that it isn't real. I saw what looked like a 250 GTO in a used lot a mile or so west of there back in 2002. Turns out it was a Datsun 240. Wanted $40k for it - a very good price for a GTO but way too much for an old Datsun!
A black Enzo on I-70 going east by Idaho Springs today, sounded nice! Then a bunch of MGs and Triumphs coming back from Glenwood on I-70 also today.
That's probably the same Enzo that appeared at the Concours at around noon a couple of years ago, drove onto the lawn, let a few people take pictures, then drove off. I wonder if he put in a similar appearance on Sunday; I was only there for a couple hours and didn't see him. The owner of an F40 made a brief appearance at Automezzi last week. Showed up around noon. At least he parked his car among the other Ferraris for a little while. I appreciate that owners of fantastic cars like the Enzos and F40s will bring them to these shows, but I would prefer that they arrive in the morning with everyone else, display their cars alongside the others of the marque, and stay for the show. To be honest, guys, the late arrivals and brief appearances seem a bit arrogant, IMO.
I respectfully disagree... I'd rather 20 minutes with an Enzo than zero minutes with one! Only decent spot tonight was a black BMW Z8 on dealer plates at 2nd and Steele at around 7:45pm.
I don't agree. A couple of years ago a friend of mine moved a bunch of things around to bring his CGT to the show. He could only be there an hour or sobut it was a stretch for him. He really enjoyed talking to people about the car and I think a bunch of people got some honest reactions about the car. He wasn't arrogant he just couldn't stay past noon.
That's cool, then. It's just that, more than once, I've seen the people with Enzos, F40s, and the like, drive in late, glory in all the attention, and drive off. Of course, their cars get a lot of attention anyway, but it seems like they know it. By contrast, I love the humility of the anonymous gent who brought his 275GTB to Sunday's concours and simply parked it in the lot. He could have got a tremendous amount of attention by driving onto the concours for a minute or two, but he didn't. Don't know who he is, but I already like the guy.
red 400 with HUGE shields on the fenders at hampden and I-25. Never seen one before, almost thought it was some odd french car. hehe....what a cool looking car.
Two this evening: the same dark gray Audi R8 that was at Concours (still on temporary plates) at Elway's around 7:45pm, and a commonly-seen dark gray Bentley Arnage at the Westin downtown a few minutes later.
Just saw a camoed black and white new Camaro on Michigan plates in Georgetown, first time seeing one...seemed plainer than I expected.
Tonight at the Cherry Creek Mall valet around 7:30pm, a great-looking Shelby Cobra replica on collector plates... and at Elway's around the same time, a white Porsche 911 GT3 (997) with Texas stickers in the window, though I didn't check the plates.
Some recent spots of mine: Friday June 13, 2008: a blue Maserati GranSport Spyder at Cherry Creek Mall valet and a dark gray Aston-Martin V8 Vantage at North valet, both around 7pm. Saturday June 14, 2008: a yellow Hummer H1 on University and Alameda around 1pm, and a black Ferrari 360 Spider on "US Army" plates at Cherry Creek Mall valet around 2:30.
Doug, your new camera is doing you wonders! Your shots were already great, and now they're even better. The shot of that Merak that you posted has been one of my favorite photo's that you've posted. I love the action shown by the rims and the blurred background. What camera is it?
Thanks! I was pretty happy with the Merak shot, too, though that was the best of about seven I took. Good photo with a very cool subject! As for the camera, it's a Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS. Very compact, very quick, and great in the evenings, unlike the last camera. It's perfect for this hobby! Today at around 7:30pm, I spotted the same black Ferrari 360 Spider on U.S. Army plates from the Mall today in Larimer Square. At around 7:45, I saw a dark gray Aston-Martin V8 Vantage on 10th Mountain Division plates on Steele between 2nd and 3rd.
Past Friday I saw a red Bentley CGT Convertible in Glenwood on main street, a camo new Camaro on I-70, and finally a light blue Panoz Esperante just outside of Vail on I-70.
Hard to believe it's the middle of the summer in the Rocky Mountain Region... this section is dead and I'm seeing almost NO exotic cars. What the heck?! Only spot tonight was a dark gray Bentley Arnage on 15th and Larimer.
Great night this evening, solving one of my issues in last night's post... Around 7:15pm in Cherry Creek North, each of the following cars: - Black Aston-Martin V8 Vantage on temporary plates at the JW Marriott on Clayton between 1st and 2nd. - Dark gray Aston-Martin V8 Vantage Roadster on New Jersey "manufacturer" plates at Elway's. - Aston-Martin V8 Vantage and Maserati GranTurismo (both black, both on temporary plates) at Cherry Creek Mall valet. Here's a shot of the Maserati, and here's one of the Aston-Martin. - Yellow Ferrari 348ts at Elway's. - Red Dodge Viper RT/10 in the back of the lot at Elway's near Bed Bath and Beyond.
Saw some crazy cool looking headlights coming up behind me on 120th in Broomfield tonight so I slowed down and it was a V8 Vantage. First one I had seen on the road. Had DLR plates I'm assuming from Sill-Terhar. Looked nice, the headlights won me over
Cool cars! Every so often some idiot will forget they have a starter button and attempt to jump it because he thinks it's dead. No personal experience or anything. Red BMW Z8 exiting I-25 southbound at about Dry Creek around 8am today. Yes, that is a dog in the front passenger seat.
Some good stuff out tonight: the Ritz's black Rolls-Royce Phantom in Larimer Square around 8pm, a very rare silver Dodge Viper GTS ACR at Elway's around 7:45, a blue Lamborghini Gallardo on 'Respect Life' plates at North around the same time, and the highlight of my evening, a yellow Ferrari 348ts on vanity plates ("IGTABME") out of Jefferson County, on 7th and Josephine.
