Its time to start a thread about the Spyder Vignale!

Here we have #927 with its proud owner Sid Colberg and his wife (funny hat Mam...!) in 1983 in Lake Tahoe where his car won the Concours! Sid was a great Maserati enthusist and also owned an A6GCS "monofaro" and a T61 Birdcage!

This Spyder is one of the rare pre-series car with low a-column and long bonnet. The car car came later to Vizenca, Italy when it was purchased by a member of The German Maserati Club. Sold again within Germany its now awaiting full restoration.

    Ciao!

The vignale spyder undoubtedly is deserving of California Spyder level recognition. The attention to detail on these cars far outweighs anything coming out of Maranello at the time. Truly magnificent.

I was very surprised to find this car one afternoon parked on the street here in Chicago. Located about 1100 N. Astor St. The picture was taken with my cell phone. I apologize but I didn't think to check the s/n.

    Walter,

Of course you are correct :) It is 1129.

This link provides a link to a list of all the Vignale spyders, the production date and original color combo. Most likely not 100% accurate. For example next to #678 it states it is one of two prototypes; I know there were at least four prototypes.

Quite sure that its #927. It seems that the car was prior to the Stockholm auction registered in California. It came again to auction in 1991 at the Nuerburgring-event where it was sold to Italy.

Yes i think so. 1970 is not right and 427 should be 927.

This is #1113. The car was delivered new to THEPENIER in St. Cloud, near Paris and was sold new to Antonio Loreno fro Paris. He sold it on only 6 months later to Monsieur Marchand.

The car spend its whole life in France. The pic was taken 4 years ago in the Le Mans Classic.

This is prototype #505, which was shown at the 1959 Turin show. Originally silver with black interior, currently burgundy with tan interior. Owned by Blackhawk Collection.

This is the first prototype ... #504. As best I can tell the factory never displayed it as the car was delivered the same week the Vignale spyder was officially announced. This car is the first 3500GT built on the shortened chassis. Notice that the upper side trims/vent were not in Michelotti's first design. They were added to the next few prototypes and on the production cars they went back to his original design. One unique feature on this car is the hood bulge which visually extends through the windshield into the instrument pod.

I currently own this car. Original and never has been apart. Has most of its original paint, interior, top, manuals, etc .... but has not run in many years. If anyone knows any of this car's early history please do not hesitate to contact me.

There are additional photos and history on this webpage:
