So I just got the new Car and Driver and what do you know the Viper walks the GTR hard. It beats it by 15 mph in the 1/4, that is HUGE. It also beat the car by almost 6 seconds at Button Willow. That was a short lived title of being the budget super car killer wasnt it? This being said the new ACR is a MONSTER.

It seems all those "great" GTR tests were preproduction cars. The production cars are running mid 12's in the 1/4 compared to high 11's. But the fanboys will still have an excuse....

Iam gonna do one better and go test drive both cars. :D

Car & Driver or any magazine do not hold valid performance in my book till you go see for yourself.

It's hard to know who to believe, but as mentioned, all the preproduction GTR's have been smoking, and it seems the production models are not living up to the hype. Maybe it's just the drivers?? ;)

I always got a kick out of the "it has a REALLY advanced transmission" argument. OK, so it somehow is more efficient than the Viper's 11% driveline loss? Same for the AWD... "it's *really* advanced!". Riiiiight, that must be it!

Yea and on a car that weighs nearly 1000# more... The numbers were just not adding up in ANY WAY! I read all that and just thought to myself we would see how it all comes out when they hit the showroom floor with $30k dealer fees tacked on... Either way, even if it is a technological terror, it is still U-G-L-Y! If I am spending $70k (plus mark up of $30k making $100k) for a car the damn thing better LOOK as good as it performs...or even BETTER! Think Aston Martin V8, Ferrari, Porsche... Even early NSX (before the fixed head lights)... They all look every bit as good as they perform and they look STUNNING!

    YMMV!

Exactly. The GTR is an overpriced, underperforming piece of crap. If any bare bones 600 horsepower Dodge Viper with no ground clearance and a huge wing on the back can beat it around a track, then who the hell would want it? Especially when you can have a Ferrari that's quadruple the price and only just a little slower.

    :D :D

The GTR is a great sports GT. I'll never buy one because I can't stand to look at it yet its performance balance is impressive if not the second coming of christ as many preproduction performance stats may have suggested.

For those that like the techno wonder styling I'm glad they have an alternative ...

Competition makes all the cars better so I still applaud the GTR.

I'm sure it will make a great daily driver too..(if you like the technostyling)

I don't get C&D's rating. Should have been ACR, GT2, GTR, and ZO6 according to lap times. But man, ACR viper is insane.

I wouldn't say that the GT-R is crap, but more so that Dodge has come out and said, "**** you!" to everyone with the ACR. It's a pretty damn amazing piece of machinery from everything I read about it.

The ACR and GTR are completely diff demo IMO. ACR is a stunning vehicle.

I'm totally nuetral on this one, but I have to wonder the logic in comparing the GTR to an ACR?

Thats like comparing a 330i with an M3CSL in my opinion......The GTR is a sporting car, but its no racer. I really don't think there is going to be much cross shopping between te Z06/ACR/GT3 crowd. Perhaps regular 911's, but its way to heavy with a lot of luxury features. While the performance for its class is incredible, the rumored Spec V version or whatever it ends up getting called would have been the car to take to this test.

So wait, I haven't gotten the magazine yet (still waiting)...

According to Akira, the GTR was easily the slowest and yet still won the comparison? What was the rationale?

I read an article not too long ago between the 997 911 Turbo, new V8 M3, and the GTR.....and somehow they managed to make the 911 Turbo last because of price and trunk space?? Even though they all agreed it was eye-popping fast and the most fun in daily driving and track situations. The cheapest, the M3, won that comparo...

Well, GTR wasn't the slowest. But to be fair ZO6 and GTR is the base models. It should be ZR-1 and GTR V-Spec vs GT2 and ACR. Now that would be a great comparison.

And the GTR won because of the same reason M3 won the previous comparison. It is better daily driver. I don't agree with their decision but it's C&D's opinion so I'll just leave it that.

It was supposed to be the best track car not daily driver. The best track car is the ACR no doubt about it.

Car and Driver picked the M3 over the GTR in a comparison. I have given up on Car and Driver.

And why is that bad? The M3 has been known since its beginning to be a fantastic car.

It's gotten a little ridiculous, that's why. If there's an M3 in one of their comparos, don't even bother picking up the issue.
