not at all.. The Gallardo outclasses the 360s in nearly every category...
The 355 outclasses the 360 in every category besides performance...

Stock for stock the gallardo is a more well rounded car - looks are subjective, so who cares what one person says from another, but on paper the Gallardo is the better rival, which makes sense since its clear rival is the 430 anyway...

hahah man a lot of opinion here..

I think if you are looking at value for your money at 130-150k a gallardo is "more car".. but if you wanted a modena in the 90-110k pricerange then that would be good value.. however some of you people here seem to be loving the 355 (which I also like much myself)

tell me what is it about the 355 that makes it a better car than the 360?

That's actually a good thing. Ask anyone that's ever torn apart a 360 and a Gallardo and they'll tell you the build quality in the Gallardo is far superior.

I drove my 360 for 10 months and then added a Gallardo. From that point on, the 360 sat in the garage as the Gallardo was much more enjoyable!

It is easier to find a nice newer car ie. Gallardo than a nice older car ie. the 355. If you like simple horsepower and lots of it ( 5 valves per cylinder isn't simple horsepower to oversimplify things) then your decision is easy...

The 355 was built when Enzo was still running the company, for starters.. (not the late ones obviously)

The 355 was approved by Enzo himself and has the magic of the pre - '98 Ferraris.. If you want an experience to really enjoy, the 355 will be better than both options you are thinking of. But with that, come the downfalls. It is slightly more dependent on maintainence, thus just as expensive to run. If you're worried about value, the Fiorano 355 is holding very good value costing more than some 360s still... IMO, the 360's purpose is the same as the 348's: to introduce a revolution of change and enhancement. Not only in performance, but in styling and luxury. The jump from the 328 to the 348 was a similar jump from the 355 to the 360, the only difference is that the 355 was nearly perfect.

The 355 is better for the same reason the 512M is better than the 575M. Funny thing is that they will be identical in price to live with...

Its more sexy looking and just looks and feels more exotic, it sounds much better too. The early 355's are still very old school Ferrari the way the 360/430 are not. The 355's will be very desired cars for years to come and are a bargain these days.

I recently had the opportunity to drive a Gallardo, I've never driven a 360, however, I did get to drive an F430 the same day.

My advice is to drive the Gallardo, I found that even though there is a basic element of comfort in the car (aka the seats and long distance capabilities), it was more uncomfortable to drive fast than all the other cars I drove that day (997 turbo, F430, C6 Z06, Elise, and Ford GT). Easily the most fun car was the F430 (I am assuming the 360 is similar only without the power). Besides the great power, their was perfect control over the car. Everything felt amazing including the pedals, the view, and especially the nearly telepathic steering with insane amounts of grip. Just fantastic in every sense.

The Gallardo felt more detached than the other cars (except maybe the Z06). The windshield was insanely steeply raked, the car felt unusually big (even though it isnt), the pedals very very stiff and the egear wasn't smooth at low speeds at all. The car had great power from 3k to redline, terribly fast, and the interior was the best of the bunch as far as looks and quality (with the ferrari and porsche very close behind), but that was all it really had going for it. It did feel it had tons of grip, however I felt uncomfortable to exploit it.

Moral is, I wouldn't feel comfortable in the Gallardo everyday. I would, however, be able to daily drive the Ferrari, its that good (and I am no Ferrari Fanboi, trust me).

So if power is your game and your not planning on driving it everyday, the Gallardo is still a great car. But if your all about handling and connectedness with the car, then I don't see why you wouldn't get the Ferrari.

ENZO had gone out of this world since 1989 as I remember and the F355 was built in 1994.

    Gallardo is for posers.

    360 is for drivers.

It really depends on what you want and how you feel. If you really want a car to drive the 360 has enough power. Plus like someone said above Ferrari as a brand has heritage & history behind it with more events for driving ect ect.

If you are addicted to feeling like a rock star where people are looking at you, buy the Gallardo.

you really don't think a ferrari 360 has curb appeal? I mean the car really gets less looks for than a gallardo.. I have experience with both and BOTH get pretty much about the same level of looks..

now.. I also track all my cars.. and I think HP is a SMALL aspect of the track experience.. thus the ferrari and gallardo which both happen to handle well on the track would make me happy..

we shall see.. I think If I decide to save money and get a 30k mile (drivers) modena pay maybe 90-110k I will go that route.. but if I decide to be in the 130-150k pricerange the gallardo would be the route..

The 355 is about one step removed from a Mazda Miata in terms of looks. A Fiero with a body kit would also be a close analogy.

The 360 has the sweetest lines ever, with a set of 430 rims it looks nicer than the 430 IMO. Women walking by while I'm stopped in traffic stop to take a picture next to my 360. Somehow I could not see that happening, ever, in a 355.

True (he died in '88), but he was around for the rendering of the 348 which clearly had influence on the 355... as the testarossa had influence on the 512M/TR/550.... even if he was dead from '88 - from '90 - '95 Ferrari were making some of the best sports car..
As you know: F40, F50, 288gto, 512TR/M, etc etc etc...

What is the purpose of this particular car?

I agree that when you track, power is not as much a concern - for 110k i would go the Porsche route instead of getting a 360 (unless to can stretch for a stradale)... I have only driven a Gallardo SE and a Stradale (not the base 360) and can tell you that a Gallardo is a different experience on the track.. It feels much faster with less effort, where as the Ferrari feel fast but you also feel more rewarded whilst driving along the course. A Porsche is best of both worlds though, for a cheaper tag... A 996GT3 is a very respectable track car, and quite tune-able if you are into that. But if you are after attention... nothing screams "look at me" like a Lambo in the right color.... Everyone has a Ferrari.. (everyone who can afford one.)

You have interesting taste if you go as far as comparing a PininFarina design to the Miata, let alone the Fiero. . . I happen to disagree with that statement (both statements), but the world will still go around. You shouldnt worry about women walking by.. all they will do is eat and drink your money just because you LET them.

Also, the fact that your trading in a lotus tells me what kind of car guy you are. The Ferrari is a much purer experience than the Gallardo, the Ferrari is a step forward from the lotus (a BIG step) whilst being in the same line. The Gallardo is just a totally different animal.

    I have owned and tracked a Viper/Lotus Elise/ Lotus Esprit V8 and M3

I use the M3 as DD right now, but I track it as well.. the Esprit V8 will be most similar to the ferrari 360, now.. performance wise.. the 360 is not a step up from my esprit, both the gallardo and 360 are currently slower than my esprit at it's current power output..

However I like to feel like I am DOING SOMETHING at the track.. and to be honest a 996/997 turbo or a Gallardo, with it's AWD both feel similar, they can do very well at the track but lack the feeling of accomplishment my monstrous Esprit gives me.. I assume the 360 is the PURE drivers car.. and that is something I find appealing.. however the Gallardo is also a very fun ride on the track too..

I'm a car lover.. I'll be happy with either to be honest.. I just wish I made more money to buy BOTH at the same time :)

I can't go for a drive without people taking pictures on their cell phones of my 348 Spider.. and i cant even begin to count the times girls have wanted to take picture in, around, on my 348 Spider. So, yes, it does happen.....even in a 348

Well, that's not what I meant at all. And if I can't get my point across to you, Daudi, I'm not going back through it.

It comes down to a few things. Preference and, preference.

I personally would prefer a newer Gallardo as opposed to an older (99', 00') 360 Modena. The build quality will clearly be better. When given the choice between a Stradale and a Gallardo, I pick the CS. Opinion.

I actually laughed out loud at this one. I feel similarly... the 355 looks very dated to me. The 360 looks far better in my opinion. But, it's an opinion and not fact :)
