I know the place, it is crammed with cars. It is not a repair shop however, it is close by but there is NO reason to see this car. Critical on DeLoreans is the frame...I have a very solid feeling this cars frame is F'd up. To get this car tip top would cost you an easy 30 G's plus your initial purchase. If you want a DeLorean save up a good 40-45 and you can find a really good car.

 

Does it have the dual hemulators and the flux capacitor? That place sells 3rd rate stuff, don't waste your time and more importantly your money.

 

I would stay away from it, unless your interested in working on it.

 

I can get you into any condition DeLorean that you want....key is finding a solid car to start with. Call me, I have connections. That car is also a 3 speed auto, why would you want that?? 5 speed is the way to go with these cars and the frame sections are different when it comes to transmissions on these cars so swapping is not easy. BTW that car is not cheap, body panels can be quite expensive upwards of 5g's for a driver side fender. Shop cautiously, as a matter of fact do some research on them, there is a lot out there on these cars. Now is the time to get in on them too.

Gullwing Motors is the modern equivalent of a foreign car junk yard except the cars are inside and sort of look ok. I have seen cars they have literally been pulled out of a field and other cars with light fixture glass where a turn signal should be. Basically they are the kind of place that sells projects and even at that....be careful.

I love deloreans, and one day, when i have the money, i will have one. I thought about selling my vette and trying to do a delorean motor swap type project, but everyone i spoke to who's done a swap has said that the end result still isn't a real sports car, so i should just get a mint condition one and enjoy it as is....

A couple of thoughts. While the original dream idea of the Delorean might have led to an interesting car, the reality of limited capital led to a totally uninteresting and undistinguished effort by the time it was able to be produced. No one wanted them when they were being built and I can't understand what their appeal is now. Having said all of that, there is no accounting for what trips people's triggers when it comes to cars and that is why there are people who buy Deloreans, Citroens, Rovers and Tatras.

Project Deloreans make no sense however as you can probably buy the best one in the world for far, far less than the cost of getting a "deal" on this one and fixing it up. Yale is right, Gullwing is known for selling "projects" that are one step away from the crusher or being parts cars.

JZD was certainly a hero of mine.... there is a lot to the DeLorean story. Much of which is still unfolding, Matt, as far as engine swaps, I haven't done any although I know someone who put a TT lotus v8 in his and this car hauls ass. Just remember the suspension and brakes should also be addressed upon going that route. Lastly, FYI Concours DeLoreans bring in as of late anywhere from 60-65 G's a far cry from your statement. Actually that pic was from 2006, I am waiting for the 2008 pics to surface, if anyone is interested I'll post some.

 

Good move on that one...I encourage you to pm or call me. If you want a car I can help you. There are many DeLorean vendors, restorers. One near to me and a very large one in Texas as a matter of fact.

 

I've seen the TT Lotus car, it looks really well done. The guys I talked to did RX-7 Rotary and Grand National V6 motor swaps with Porsche transaxles, and they said that, though the car went fast as hell in a straight line, they could never get the balance right to make the car a true sports car, and at best it became a quick GT car. That's fine, but I wanted to make more of a track car out of it, so it just didn't work out. Additionally, both people said they got less than half the value of the collective parts when they sold their cars.

 

$45k for a Delorean is a far stretch, $65K isnt even in the realm of reality.

How often have you or anyone else every bought a car off of ebay?? I would imagine if anyone where to purchase an antique, collector or exotic car of any kind that person would want some kind of service history or verifiable documentation no??? It should also be noted that the really good cars tend to sell private.

 

eBay is an extremely reliable source when it comes to market pricing for cars -- it's not 1996 anymore...it's one of the main places people go to buy and sell these days. I've purchased at least two exotic cars on eBay and sold 2 so far, all at fair (if not above) market prices.

Edit: actually scratch that -- I've bought 4 cars from eBay -- 360 Spider, 911 GT3 and two SL65 AMGs.

 

Many real cars are sold by ebay, you can still get your history of the car. ebay is really a true fator of how much a car is worth, like a aution you need 2 bidders to get a vaule, really good cars do not tend to sell private, and when they do the buyer and the seller always BS on the real price of the car.
