Depends. In regards to owning a Gallardo, what are your sentiments about the Porsche Boxter? I own a 360. Absolutely love it. No regrets.
well you missed my response to the guy who never cared to begin with... Point wasnt when the man died, but the influence he STILL had recently after he died... Cars now are hardly influenced by the nearly perfect '90s models - they are changed and only improved in performance for the most part. If its something you "dont care" about, then you obviously havent driven a car from Enzo's times and compared it to a current one... not a big deal.. I cant be that bad when someone here compares a 355 to a bleeding Miata - come off it..
The 355 is far more of a mans car in the looks department, the 360 is a bit metro sexual looking so of course women are gonna look at it more, is a car they can picture driving around to the mall. The F340 is the best, is got all the nice looks from the 360 with a few cycles of steroids.
I haven't owned either, but for quite a while i was fond of the 360, and still am, and if i could i probably would try to get one as my first ever Ferrari (either that or the F430)... But personally, i've always seen Ferrari's as being a machine that has finesse, whereas, the Lamborghini being more raw and vicious persay. Maybe it's just me...but unless you're in need of the AWD and track your cars, you're better off with the 360. A 360 can easily hold it's own with cars that are driven today. And you'll find cars that you'll lose too in a "race", so to speak, no matter which car you are in, whether it's some insanely tuned Lancer Evo or a higher end Ferrari, someones out there that's faster. If you just want something comfortable that has the power when you need it, but also has gracefulness, i'd say stick with the Ferrari. If you want something that might be comfortable, but probably has a chance to hurt your back (I can't see a Lamborghini being that much more comfy than a Lotus), and you want the raw power, go with a Lamborghini. The only Lamborghini i'd go for is the Murcielago, i wouldn't even bother with a Gallardo. I'm not saying that they're bad cars...but for the price range, I could see myself elsewhere. Again, this is all just my opinion. So take it as a grain of salt, I suppose.
A modern day sportscar needs to have a certain level of performance to go with it's looks and for most people either a Gallardo or Modena would suffice in the power department. However, if you're already used to power and it's important to you, then the Gallardo might be the better choice. On a tangent, if you're talking about something older - say pre-1980, in my opinion the performance aspect should not be a major factor in consideration of purchase.
My wife and I used to drive the cars together. Sitting in traffic, or traveling through crowded streets, I would go practically unnoticed in the 360 (flashy yellow) in comparison to the Gallardo (black). With that said, 360 is no Accord. It gets plenty of attention.
Like a german car, I really enjoyed that one. Ive had more things than I can count fall off or just come loose on my daily driven audi thn i could shake a stick at. On the other hand the wifes daily driven has had a perfect recd for 170,000 miles.
Seriously, is that including a Mondial & 348 to name a few?? Don't get me wrong but some seem to be blinded by the badge. The 360 is a great car but it looks boring when next to a Gallardo, not to mention the deficiency in performance and additional service costs.
I just don't get the theory of the 360 design being "dated". Maybe to .0001% of the f-car enthusiasts. The average person that sees my '00 360 thinks it's new, or maybe an '07. I think they have a breathtaking design, and is truly a beautiful piece of rolling art.
I agree. I dont think of it as dated at all. To me, if the 430 had never come out, you could present it as an 09 easily today.
I personally like the looks of the 360, but style is subjective so I don't think the statement below would apply to everyone. I think most have a model or two they are not particularly fond of. What is consistent with all models is that they are all Ferraris, but to me making a blanket statement implies loyalty to the marque vs. strict consideration of style/design ... which ofcourse is totally fine.
I agree to that.. the 360 is a modern design.. no question the whole "dated" concept certainly doesn't apply to the 360.. and while the gallardo is more STRIKING.. the 360 is definitely more beautiful IMO.
Hell, I've had many people come up ask what year my 328 is. When I say an 86 I've had quite a few tell me they thought it was a new model.
and while I love the looks of the gallardo.. the negatives to having a STRIKING design can sometimes be (and only time will tell) the car looking out of place in 20 years.. where as a beautiful design will stay beautiful forever..
360 all the way.. There are a lot of cars that are much faster than both at fractions of the price, but Ferrari's in almost all have great style and designs that just are a work of art. I bought the 360 for the beauty in its design.. To each his own, but I say get the 360. And on a TCU question, I did the upgrade to mine and just wow. Its a huge improvement over the sloppy stock engagement.
I know more than a handful of people (who are experienced Ferrari/Lambo owners) who DO think the 360 looks dated and prefer the 355 or 430 (you can even watch Tiff Needell's old review of the 360).. The Diablo is "dated" too, but people still love it - im not saying the 360 has lost its desireability, just that it isnt as fascinating as it was when it launched.... and thats not just "IMO". . . The 360CS would be a better consideration if a Gallardo is your other choice, otherwise you are comparing two very different cars (Gallardo/360.) I wouldn't put the 360 on the same level (having driven a Gallardo and a 360CS) If you want a 360 at all, just get it and consider a Gallardo sometime in the near future - maybe when the LP becomes abit more mainstream.
And the average person that sees my 355GTS thinks its one of the best looking Ferraris of the 90s.. a 430 may drive by, but it gets attention based on flamboyance (probably copied from Lamborghini's design theories) - when it comes to pure beauty, something that looks "new" isnt exactly beautiful... Some (most who have reasonable taste) recognize classic art/design and that is not what you see when you see a 360.. instead you (i see) a good looking car with potential to look better than its rivals - but not anything from the past.. The 360 looked much better than its rivals during its time (996, DB7, etc, etc), and at the same time THOSE cars look dated too... doesnt mean people dont love them - most still DO enjoy them as cars.. I do for sure, and never said i didnt...
this is interesting.. So a bright green gallardo with a grunt sounding V10 is not?.... The 360 is a peaceful looking, sophisticated design, rather subtle to say the least.. Its more classier than the Gallardo by far (even if I say its dated.) Dated only means, no longer striking...I am guessing the reasons this guy Mamo finds the Gallardo "striking", yet not "beautiful" is because its a newer design suggesting more flamboyance than class... dont blow context out of proportion here..
