I have friend who is looking for a Ferrari, he has been driving Porsches and Aston Martin for the past 10-15 years now. He has become enamored of a fiberglass body 308. I have read its a really rare version of the 308 Ferrari. I am highly dubious of the 308 due to its obviously overall inferiority. My friend appreciates speed and performance and I’m having a hard time giving him my endorsement.

how do I convince myself so I can convince him.

Come on chaps - pile in !!!!!

    Inferior to what ?

    Inferior in what way ?

Yes its true there are one or two cars in the world more beautiful but very few

Yes there are some faster cars but when many roads are 55 mph or radar patrolled does it matter ?

    Back to the playstation......

I agree, don't let him buy a 308. Tell him to save his money for a less inferior car.

Huh? It took most brands 20+ years to make a production car to surpass the 308's (Ferrari's version of a production car) capabilities.

I would would sure as he!! hope that 20 years after the fact (the 308), there are faster, better handling cars out there.

Please..........., go buy one of those.

How in hell do you compare an early model 308 to a modern Porsche or AM? it may be inferior now but so are 30 year old Porsche's and AM's, the 308 still has enough performance to match modern traffic so unless your friend? wants to track it he is better of with something more superior, but he will never find anything superior in the styling dept.

Sounds like the best thing you can do is step aside. Let the guy go get what he wants, and if it turns out he doesn't like the car, then he can get rid of it again.

Why are you guys getting all overly sensitive about this? I am not the one buying the car. Talk about shock, what's really surprising is that the general consensus here is for him to NOT purchase a Ferrari. Is there some sort of exclusive 308 club that exists here?

I take it you are not in sales. Insulting someone who you are asking for advice is never a good tactic.

    If I walked into a bald convention and said hey I'm thinking of becoming bald but I know most of you are unsuccesful, dumb, ugly and never get lai#. What do you think the responses would be on trying to convince me to become bald? {rolleyes}

Unbelievable! I'm happy with myself and my cars. This isn't about me or you it's about my friend who's laboring with this decision. I gave him the link to this thread and he just told me to blow you guys off.... I'm trying to change his mind now, stand by.....

Unless I am mistaken this thread has nothing to do with your friend who wants a 308

It is about your initial assertion about the 308 that you have shown no interest in justifying

But then I see your profile is still blank which suggests something to many regular users here

Say what you want, but when Bob Bondurant drove the Fiberglass 308 during its maiden introduction in 1976, he proclaimed to the staff of Car and Driver Magazine that it was the best sportscar he had EVER DRIVEN.

You are making the grand mistake (as is so often done on this board) of comparing 1976 automotive technology to MODERN automotove technology, and nit-picking the performance of a 1976 car to a car built with today's standards of performance, comfort, and construction. This is not a fair comparison, and if you're not in firm understanding of this, there are many here who will not be kind to you. The 1976 Ferrari Fiberglass Dry-Sump 308 is, in many respects, a Holy Grail machine that is seriously rare, and a serious investment of time, effort, and money. Most of these cars have been 'discovered', faithfully restored, and now sell for big bucks, bigger than a used 360 is going for now - perhaps your friend should consider a newer model if you insist on making silly comparisons of 1976 cars to vehicles made in this millenium. Apples and Oranges.

If he has been driving Porsches and Astons for 10-15 years he is perfectly capable of making his own decision without your "endorsement".

The picture is clearly real and of one of these inferior 308s - to be precise it must be one of the vetroresina cars as the color degraded on the fiberglass over the years to make it look pink

Well actually this question would have been answered in the 308 Section below, but a fibreglass car, only made in 1975 and 1976 is now quite rare and priced accordingly......712 were made and most have fallen to time at this point, bring $80 - 100K USD for a 100 point example.....

There's ONE for sale in all of Italy and it would be a dry sump engine, all US cars were wet sump oiling and other technical variations of the original intent.....

How else may we be of assistance.........it's kind of like you walked into the room and called our gf ugly ....LOL!

"I am highly dubious of the 308 due to its obviously overall inferiority."

Are you really that clueless. What part of the above statement by you makes anyone here think you have any real understanding of a ferrari or to be more exact a 308? If you really want to "change" your mind and your buddys start reading all the information in the 308/328 section.
