    Walter,

Are you sure that car's serial number is 505? The factory photo I have of car #505 looks quite different. Do you know the owner and can he verify the number?

    Ivan,
I was contacted by the owner some years ago. He sent more photos. It seems that there are 2 cars that have this VIN which has a strange "C" behind the number stamped! Does this mean it was the 3rd. car with that VIN??? I don`t know. In my archive I have a photo that shows this "lost" car when it was manufacturerd on blocks in the Factory, a mechanic standing next to it.

    Ciao!

    Walter,

The Vignale spyder production list, which I believe was put together by Ermanno Cozza, lists car numbers 504 and 504/C. I have no idea what is the meaning of the "C" (perhaps "Cabriolet" ? ) nor do I know if that car still exists. I know #505 is with Blackhawk Collection. Perhaps there is also a #505 and a #505/C. It would be interesting to see if the car for which you posted the photo is #505/C.

You can access the complete list on this webpage: http://thecarnut.com/VignaleprototypesOther/vignalespyders.pdf

    Dear Ivan,
in my humble archive of now over 8,000 photos of Maseratis and many historic documents I already have that list since years. It was published on the website of the German club 5 years ago.

But I made a mistake: correct VIN is #504C (and not #505C as mentioned in my previous post. Appologise!!) When I got the photo the owner of the car was not aware of this "C"-confusion. He posted me the VIN and I strongly assume that he had no reason to let me know a lase number!

Fact is #504"C" is still existing! I assume that Vignale presented 3 different versions to Maserati and this was the "C"-version.No idea if there were more "C`s" but I doubt that.

#504C was sold new to Allessio Fassio who was from Genoa, Italy, in 1960.

Unfortunately I have no contact anymore with the owner of #504C but the car resides either in Spain or Portugal today.

    Ciao!
    Walter

Yep - the long lost #109.001 (note the Mistral- chassis-code!). I sorted a bit the history of the car for iL TRIDENTE, the TMC-magazine last year.

    A very nice car!!!

    ...with BONHAMS in MOnaco 2006!

The car was delivered new to an unknown German owner viaAUTO KÖNING, Munich, Germany.Originally the car was yellow.
It latter suffered an accident on its left rear side, was repaired, repainted now to champaign and the owner gave it to his daughter. She sold it in 1963/64 to Peter Kaus, who had it since his sale out to NL stored in his museum near Frankfurt.

We had one at Motorcar Gallery, silver, it had previously been owned by a major collector from the northern US with a house in Palm Beach, but he only had it briefly. It was then displayed at Shelton for a while, then Ed Waterman of Motorcar Gallery eventually bought it. It had great paint but was not a perfect car, I can't remember if it had Webers or Lucas prince of darkness equipment. When I drove it along Las Olas to the intracoastal waterway for photos it certainly proved popular!

We sold it to a very nice chap from India living not far from NYC.

Oh and Nein ich don't remember das chassis #!

I looked at buying a 3500 spyder that needed restoration back in 1999 or so. Chassis number was 1025 I think.
It was fitted with an american V6 and autobox. The car came with a carb 3500 engine and correct gearbox although not from #1025

I will see if I can find the pictures.

To my eye the 3500 spyder is perhaps one of the prettiest cars ever designed.

    Simon,
    thanks for the info.

    Can you recall this details:

    a. where was it offered for sale?
    b. who offered it?
    c. what was the color of the car (#1025 was originally in sliver with black leather).
    d. wire-wheels?

    Photos would be fantastic!!

    Ciao!

    Hi Walter
The car was for sale at MROKS in holland.
I found the photos and short description they sent me back in 1999.
    cheers
    Simon

    Maserati 3500 Vignale Spyder, 1964.

This car has chassis-number AM101*1025 and it was purchased in Long Beach, California in 1990. In America it had at some stage been fitted with an American engine and with an automatic gearbox.

When purchased, it was in un-restored condition, and it came with a Maserati 3500 carburator engine and with a matching gearbox extra.
This engine (no. #1026) and gearbox are not the original ones for this car.
Missing parts are front-bumper, grill and one fog-lamp.
Since the importation into Holland on 22-01-1991 nothing has been done to the car and it remained in storage for 10 years.

Today the car is still in the same condition and in need of a total restoration.

    Priced at: 34.034,-- EURO.
