I am in the middle of a gearbox rebuild, and I would like to grease the bushes in the shaft that is in the bell housing. It has two pins with 8mm nylock nuts to retain the shaft. Has anyone here had these out before, as they feel very tight to try and remove and I do not like bashing things.

Bash 'em out. I had mine out. If memory serves they're a taper fit. In any event it took some force to get them free.

Yep, it worked, the Ol' hot air gun, and a slight attitude adjustment (hammer and drift) works.
Tapered pins will only go one way, make sure you support the shaft through the slot in the back of the housing so the casting does not bear the brunt of your " enthusiasm".
    Thanks, Mg

Mine took quite a bit of " enthusiasm" to remove and were clealy scrap when they finally did come out. They're cheap though.

Come to think of it maybe I used heat too (flame). I seem to recall excess oil in the bellhousing catching fire a few times :)
Good point about supporting the shaft.

I'm not a big fan of Oxy torches near cast alloy, and the shaft is heat treated as well, I also had cleaned the housing of all the crap. These new Hot air guns are just great.
