This is what I've ascertained from respective MB AMG owners...

    - relatively high production #'s
    - ever-constant revisions/drive-train changes being offered regularly (vs. 5-6yr+ production-runs for BMW's M, Porsche's 911 TT/GT2, Ferrari's 430, Lamborghini's Gallardo, etc'...)
    - artificially exaggerated initial price-point to begin w/
    - sub-par QA/QC perception by the general public of newer MB models

For instance, well over ~$25k was being marked-off MSRP by MB dealers for the SL AMG's as the refreshed/revised SL AMG's were about to hit the showrooms.

Quite a contrast from the old E500, an AMG model co-developed/assembled by Porsche. It was very highly regarded in it's day for it's build-quality/performance, and it is still quite sought after

The old E500 is the AMG.

The all look the same and just offer bigger engines in each. They are also always refreshing them. Even my friend, who is totally into cars, can't tell one Mercedes model from another. Hell, I can't either. I often need to look for a fancy logo that says AMG or something.

There's just nothing exclusive about them.

It doesn't help that you can get the AMG wheels and body kits on the base models.

Drove one about 4 days ago, keep in mind I have a Black Series to compare to. Power wise, virtually identical, Black is a hair quicker. The suspension is a bit softer than the Black, but for an SL its perfectly damped. The big difference is the sound, with the top down the sound is intoxicating. Although my car sounds the same, you don't get enveloped by the sound like the SL with its drop top. If there is only weak point is the seats, not enough bolstering, but its nitpicking, its a helluva car for the money. New tranny is very impressive.

Also drove one a few weeks ago, a BIG leap of MB towards cars i like! Suspension is no more floaty, tranny is gooood (Not an autobox person) ( I even tried playing a song with the gears driving along a highway :) ) And yes, the sound is NICE gurble, flooring it, downshift etc. (I'm not usually a fan of traditional V8 Burble). And also, nowadays you have the capability to switch it to fun mode (no computers). Not my dream car, but hiked MB up in my list quite alot.

Is it correct that the new car transmission will match-rev-downshift, and the C63 black will not?
I believe the C63 is due for a software update that will allow the trans to be like the SL63

And is it also correct that is the cheapest looking "special-edition" badge I have ever seen?
